An Advocate article on LSU's APR: New NCAA academic guidelines could be costly By RANDY ROSETTA [email protected] Advocate sportswriter The NCAA officially publicized the framework of its ongoing academic reform movement Monday, and the initial information released shows several athletic programs at LSU and Southern University have some work to do to avoid losing scholarships in the future. On the positive side, those programs currently on shaky ground have a full year to improve their status. The NCAA calls the new method of evaluating how schools, individual programs and student-athletes fare academically the Academic Progress Rate (APR). The numbers released Monday came from the 2003-04 school year as a preliminary guideline -- a "snapshot" of how programs will be measured in the near future. As the new method becomes implemented, APR rates will be based on four-year totals. For the rest go here: http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/030105/spo_ncaa001.shtml
