What is president emeritus, and what's the difference between that position & system president?

The Headline from the Advocate this morning.

    Senator Rakes LSU Board

In a scathing attack on the leadership of LSU, Sen. Robert Barham charged Thursday that outgoing LSU System President William Jenkins was pushed out of the job despite his irreplaceable “integrity, honesty and honorable conduct.”

During a speech to his colleagues on the Senate floor, Barham, R-Oak Ridge, also rapped the LSU Board of Supervisors for:

    1. Raising football ticket prices on fans still suffering from two disastrous hurricanes.
    2. Allowing Chancellor Sean O’Keefe to skip a graduation ceremony on his Baton Rouge campus.
    3. Plotting to rearrange Louisiana higher education, including perhaps carving the University of New Orleans from the LSU system.

That quote is troubling. Typical LA political BS by the looks of it.

A emeritus designation is like an honorary position and sometimes temporary.

Wow. I hope he had a darned good excuse! That is just kinda a slap in the face to the University and students (IMO).

Today is not a good day for LSU as a whole. I truly fear for our school if Sally Clausen is named the new president. She is a deceitful woman who will only do harm to LSU. Jenkins has done a great job for our university, and he does not deserve to go out like this (if he was, in fact, forced out).

Who knows anything about this Sally Clausen? What kind of job has she done at ULL? LSU obviously has something in mind with the way this is going down. I wonder what exactly they are thinking.

I want this Senator for Gov. I like people who don't step around toes. And I'm with him on the ticket increases. I mean, $9 is a huge increase for one year for SEC tickets (and we're getting an additional home game anyway). If it was a smaller increase maybe I could understand. Yeah, so we missed one lousy game last year...Okay, we make up for it this year with that $9 increase. Do you think they lower the ticket prices the following year? HELL NO! Or maybe they will and it will snow in Tiger Stadium and I will apologize.

Let me tell you, that stadium better be ready next year. This year you could only go in and leave at certain gates and it took forever for people to get out. Also, there are bathrooms that are leaking big-time down the ramps where people are trying to walk. That's just nasty. Add in a cheesy tarp covering the west side of the stadium and tv screens and scoreboards that malfunction too much and you have an experience that doesn't quite live up to the ticket charges. However, we did win in Tiger Stadium and that is the most important thing.

Still, with those prices, they better start getting it right. And, they need to start beefing up that OOC. Fresno St. and Arizona is a decent improvement, but they're not OU, FSU or USC. I'm just asking for one per year or two. Otherwise, why play 12 games?

Sally Clausen has been around Louisiana education for a long time and has held higher education posts in several administrations. She is very smart, competent, and respected.

Does she have political connections? Probably.

Is she well-liked by colleagues and staff? I don't know for sure.

Is she the best candidate to replace Jenkins? Among in-state candidates, there are few with her qualifications, but if a true national search is conducted, there are academic administrators out there who could blow her away.

If Clausen has a relative on the LSU Board of Supervisors, there could be nepotism problems for her. If she has a boyfriend on the LSU Board of Supervisors, there could be political problems for both of them.
