here is an interesting article about the over-hyped players coming out of usc. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/24/teams-leery-of-usc-players/
i dont think usc has had many guaranteed successful nfl players other than carson and the kid with hair. some have been solid players but the superstars all had their flaws as were pointed out during the spring prior to the draft...bush and his inside game, williams and speed, jarrett and speed, and lendale and waffles, etc. i would say the others were hyped because of where they played and potential but i doubt many draft guys consider them busts since they knew of the risks going in...then again im not paying them. justice might be on the list. in other words not sure of this mystique when nothing was expected of most of them. however i do lovvve usc. the latest suspected to succeed are rivers and ellis and i doubt they disappoint.
They're both studs, and I wouldn't be dissapointed to see either end up in Chicago, although I don't see Ellis dropping far enough for that to be an option.
I heard that Carrol was dying from some weird STD he caught. Just throwing that out there.... (lets see how long it takes for this to get back to carrol)
kinda what I was thinking. would be interesting to see "busts" from other high profile schools as well to help compare. I know we've had few (Lavalais, DD, Mike Clayton).
First of all this blog is about as biased as one could get. To make the implication that pot smoking players only come from USC is funny. Not sure who the writer is trying to pimp but there are lots of missing facts. I guess the writer forgot that rookie Steve Smith just won a Super Bowl ring. Or that Junior Seau and Willie McGinnest are league stallwarts. Keyshawn, Kenechi Udezi, Justin Fargas, Lofa Tatupu, Troy Polamalu, Carson Palmer. USC has also had some kids who left in their junior year and IMO it was to their long term detriment. Mike Williams, who was cited in this "article" is the most obvious case of someone not ready to go pro. Players who produce in college don't always translate to the NFL. Is that USC's or any school's responsibility? I think it has more to do with the staff and surrounding players as anything. Here's a counterpoint anyway. http://youtube.com/watch?v=h8gayOMek_w http://www.petecarroll.com/index.cfm/pk/content/pid/401003
A lock for Heisman and leads his team to a National Championship. USC is an NFL factory- not my account, per NFL Network's account.
I don't know if this is a direct indicator of success for USC players in the NFL, but the Saints have drafted more players from USC than any other college.
