    ESPN.com's Post-Spring Top25

I have never been a fan of Ivan Maisel, as he is quite biased in the way he ranked teams in the his polls. However, since he is the only guy that seems to care enough to put together a ranking, here is ESPN.com's newest Top25 list by Ivan Maisel.

    1. LSU
    2. USC
    3. Georgia
    4. Oklahoma
    5. Michigan
    6. Texas
    7. Miami
    8. Florida State
    9. Maryland
    10. Utah
    11. Ohio State
    12. California
    13. Iowa
    14. Tennessee
    15. West Virginia
    16. Auburn
    17. Missouri
    18. Florida
    19. Virginia
    20. Purdue
    21. Clemson
    22. Kansas State
    23. Minnesota
    24. Boston College
    25. Toledo

Note: I don't believe I.M. does much studying the teams before he puts together his lists. He is the only guy so far that puts Purdue in the top25, let alone taking enough time to think about the impact that Miami and Virginia Tech will have on the ACC.

    Well, I can't say I disagree with his #1 choice ;-)

Just a bit of info for you guys...LSU's football program has had an ongoing, 2 year + investigation into its football program and academic center for student athletes.

It was recently concluded (The NCAA portion, that is), and the results were that the NCAA went along with LSU's self imposed punishment) the investigation over.

As a result, LSU lost several official vists (Which they already deducted from this past year's #; A lot of hurt it did, too, since we hauled in what some think is the #1 class in America). We also lost two scholarships.

Just thought you guys might like to know.

    much more here:

If LSU fans would stop emailing him or constantly badgering him for respect, he might not write about it all the time (or use the emails in his weekly "Mail Bag" article).

I have to admit, it is kind of sad to see the same emails sent to this guy week after week. Maybe he has it out for LSU, even though he says otherwise, but I think he does get a lot of emails from LSU fans and most of them are more than likely complaints and pleas for respect. We read it here all the time, after every game. The problem is that IM is not the only college football writer getting these emails/letters.

We are a nationally ranked top SEC team, we don't need fans badgering writers for respect. I don't have a problem with the passion these fans have (those who write), but it is starting to look bad and reflects on the fan base . . . like ORE fans a few years ago, the same ones a lot of us thought were a bunch of cry babies, they begged for respect and badgered writers for it. Sure, it didn't effect the football team but it did make the fans look like idiots.

actually there is a lot of merit to the fan's arguments. there is definitely a bias and it pisses people off. I don't blame them for being emotional and pointing out biases....its their right to do so. I could care less what the writers think since i've known long ago most are clueless. I like watching them change their tune each week and see them forgetting what they said the previous week. Happens all the time.

I'm not going to argue with anyone if there are serious biases or not....all people have to do is pay attention and its obvious but its like that for many schools. If you think it makes you look bad as a fanbase because they are whining, then I guess that's on you. I'd prefer fans who spoke their mind and could give a crap what others think. LSU will always be LSU regardless what fans say to the media and it won't change regardless what the media writes or think. LSU is special and its fans are what makes it so. I think fans who complain about other LSU fans should stop their own whining and appreciate LSU for the people who make it what it is instead of finding something negative that other fans and media do well enough as it is.

Point taken. Maybe I took it too far. But I know if AU fans were sending IM emails on a weekly basis complaining about respect, we wouldn't exactly respect them for it.

I don't like saying who is or isn't a fan, or how deeply they love the Tigers. If I, an LSU grad, go on TV crying like a baby about lack of respect for the football team (in the same basic tone of the emails) . . . I seriously doubt I'd have a lot of supporters here. I do agree that the fans make LSU special, and it does set us apart from other schools. I don't think you need to send emails to a sports writer who publishes these letters, if you plan to only bitch moan and cry about not getting respect. Eventually it comes across like begging and can be counterproductive for what you want.

If you don't agree that is fine, that is why we all have different opinions and enjoy reading/posting on boards like this.

You are correct about the bias, but it has been going on for years and not just against LSU.

I wasnt speaking to you directly though my response seemed it was. Like any other fanbase, many LSU fans don't see outside of LSU and think that the media is biased against LSU alone. I guess I can see how they come to that conclusion given a limited view. However, many here are far more passionate so they react a tad more than your usual fanbase. The fact that LSU's situation was pretty unique as well weighs heavily on their responses. LSU hadnt won a NC in 50 years and had agreed to the BCS as had every school in a BCS bowl. No one really cared or saw that many of the media used this as their propaganda tool to get more power back to their AP votes....not all were in a suckfest with Petey Carroll, yet many were but who cares. Then after abiding all the rules and basically manhandling a team the media had purported to be as possibly the best team in the modern era of NCAA football in the Sooners, well then they say we have a split NC and USC is really the best team in the land.

Many fans as do I, truly believe that if LSU had been left out of the BCS NC game, Nick Saban would have taken the high road and not make backhanded
comments or insinuations as did Carroll to slight the BCS. Nor would he allow it from his players and I think all this takes it toll on your average fan and creates such emotion from them.

Sorry if I came across as slamming you in return....i save that for others like crawfish who deserve it.

Tirk, no problem. I can tell you, as a guy from LSU who lives out here in Los Angeles, I've had my fill of Pete and SC. There is no doubt bias exists in college football, and at the present time SC is the media darling. Tex, OU, Mich, OhioSt, and ORE have all been media darlings and way over rated. Heck, if we continue to have the same kind of success we have had under Saban . . . then we may become a media darling as well and get some of that bias.

Anyway, I can't argue against your points. SC is over hyped and getting most of the attention this year. But I also have to mention that LSU is not as hated or ignored as many might think. Ever since leaving Louisiana, I haven't seen this universal hate and ignorance of LSU. Granted, LSU is known more for sports than anything else. I totally believe I got my first job because the guy hiring me liked the idea I went to LSU . . . "when Shaq played there". In the fickle industry I work in (entertainment, as an Art Director), dominated by UCLA and SC grads, I've never had anyone question my ablilities because I grew up in Louisiana or graduated from LSU. I've also met several people out here in this industry who graduated from LSU. My point is that if LSU can be respected out here in the most shallow fickle city/industry in the world . . . then it is not as bad as it might seem.

I'm proud of LSU, just like many of you guys. I wouldn't have gone anywhere else and I fully enjoyed my 8 years. I don't care if you guys want to write IM, just be sure to represent LSU well. Passion is great, but focused passion can be more effective. No matter how many letters get sent to these guys, it doesn't mean anything if the LSU football team can't back it up on Saturdays.

thats the thing many dont see. If you keep winning with regularity then the fickle fools quickly are all over you even when undeserved. They will fight admitting their mistake like a battered wife til its too late and made to look a fool. And we can both admit, most look like fools in the end, annuallly (anally?).

But hey, that's the price of always trying to seem right.

LSU will be a perennial powerhouse as long as Nick Saban is here. Soon enough everyone will see defense wins over everything else and ugly wins are still wins. they better get used to it. you'd figure they learned their lesson from Ohio St a couple yrs ago yet it never happens. Hell, Vegas wasn't built on progressive thinking.
