Prior to kickoff on Saturday night, I hear there is going to be a moment of open handed clap in memory of Les Miles.
Pretty sure we all have a few bats in the belfry, squirrels in the attic, owls in the loft. But some stats on those who are somewhat clinical is about one in four folks nationally. I suppose that one and four would include these HCs who just keep doing things that defy logic and have fans saying, what the hey was that?
Ever since CLM was hired and with his remarkable winning record up until the last few years, I asked myself what was wrong with my criteria for measuring what makes a great coach vs a bad coach. Just listening to CLM talk made me think that he was a gibbering idiot, but measuring his w/l record and how well he recruited against his speaking skills which I equated to his thinking skills said that my bias towards valuing rationality was overrated and an unreliable predictor of a coaches success. So what changed... Like most of us would agree, his inability to reality check and change lead to his downfall. The sad part about CLM tenure is that he didn't take a curtain call sooner. Up until the 21/0 NCG, it was a great show. Up until then, he walked to the beat of a different drummer which worked.
