While attending college in Ohio in 1998, I went to Notre Dame to see LSU lose a close game. Someday, I will be able to tell my starry-eyed grandkids that I saw Gerry DiNardo and Bob Davie match wits.

Hell, this man could win the next governor's race, and for good reason. He's turned around what was a lackluster at best football program dating back to the late-80s and brought respect back to a very proud program full of tradition.

Just a story of what could have been!

That team had quite a bit of talent... but DiNardo never could seem to put it all together

It doesn't help that he had a pee-wee football defensive scheme too!

I remember going to the Independence Bowl v. Michigan State and thinking we were finally back to the big time. My how far we've come in 10 years!

Linebackers -- Year of the Newcomers. Thomas Dunson was red-shirted, but was almost a starter as a true freshman for a while there. A slight shoulder problem and the fact that LSU chose not to use 3 linebackers set him back. He'll be back, and upset since he had to sit a year. From everything we've read on him, this guy is a STUD. Also, you gotta love Mr. Football Louisiana 1997, true freshman Adam McConathy (6'5", 230) from West Monroe, who has given LSU a verbal commitment. Considered by some as one of the best linebackers in the nation. In my opinion, he will either start or see some serious action as a true freshmen. Then we'll still have senior Joe Wesley, who was dominant late in the season, and who may be chosen as defensive captain. Also, there's sophomore Jamal Hill; I remember when this kid was recruited HARD out of the state of Washington 2 years ago. He must be good or Dinardo wouldn't have wanted him so much and gone so far to get him. Starter Charles Smith will also be just a junior. I think we'll be set for a while at this position.

This part was classic. I remember eating that hype up with a spoon. I remember telling my brother that Dunson was going to be All SEC that year.

And I love this quote, "He must be good or Dinardo wouldn't have wanted him so much and gone so far to get him. " That's really reaching!

In light of Saban's recruiting, it's funny to see the spin here. Unfortunately, I bleed P & G, so I'll continue to buy all of the pre-season hype and beleive all of the positive pre-season spin. Oh well, Cest la vie!

That game is still one of my 10 favorite LSU games to have ever attended. Great games by Kennison and Faulk. I thought the same thing, LSU is on the way up. Didn't quite happen the way I imagined at the time.
