gonna be a fun game to watch. this should be one where cjohnson can have a monster game on both ends. anyone care to explain why LSU would guard calathes (6'6") with spencer (6'1") when LSU has bigger guards (MT and GT) and UF will have one other small guard on the floor (hodge 6' or walker 5'8").
Re: LSU vs Florida B/c Spencer is actually a decent defender, and has neutralized many of the top SEC PGs that he's faced. In particular, while NC for Florida is a very gifted 6'6" big PG, a smaller 6'2" guy who can pester him with speed is a reasonable match-up. Spencer is also not a "small" PG in today's standards, b/c he's fairly muscular and not too diminutive. As a tall player on the perimeter handling the ball, you don't like guys quicker than you in your shorts. With that kind of match up you'd be concerned with a taller guard passing over or shooting over a smaller defender, but with NC handling the ball, he's looking to start the offense and not always coming off screens as a SG to pop the shot shooting over BS. If NC starts to get hot as an offensive threat, look for Trent to try GT on him as a different look, but I think you start off the game with Spencer, who is closer to full strength on NC. Also, Bo is an offensive threat--make NC play some d, which he's prone to lapse on.
Re: LSU vs Florida i get that, but thats only half the story. as much as calathes may cause problems for bo, so would walker or hodge cause problems for thornton or temple. id guess that ctj has looked at the tape from last year and saw how gt did on calathes (im not sure he guarded him though) and saw he didnt have the quickness. i was looking at the stats and was amazed that calathes is #2 in the SEC in defensive rebounds. how a PG does that is beyond me. i guess he doesnt lead many fast breaks. also, btw, our own GT leads the SEC in assist/TO ratio.
Re: LSU vs Florida Gameday - UF at LSU "FIVE THINGS TO WATCH 1. LSU's balance ... 2. Controlling the glass ... 3. Parsons' shooting ... 4. Taking care of the ball ... 5. Sense of urgency ..." this part was particularly complimentary-- "LSU is the conference's top rebounding team, averaging 6.9 rebounds more than its opponents per game. That should present problems for a Florida team that has been out-rebounded in each of its last five games. "What you're going to be unable to get a feel for, until you play them live, is the voracity they go at the glass," Shyatt said. "They're like pit bulls is what a couple of teams in the league describe them as. I think we leave that on the table. When you know your wants, our team has been pretty straight up and frank on what we haven't done well at times. It will be a great challenge." fill in the blanks here http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20090223/ARTICLES/902230888/1136?Title=Gameday-UF-at-LSU
Re: LSU vs Florida Is it gonna be televised? Sorry, I've been SUPER busy and haven't had a chance to look (plus I'm lazy).
Been doing it all season, can jinx us now. A little thread merge magic from the mods please. UF is the beast of the east, but a far cry from the Nat champ teams of recent past. We are home and it's Mardi Gras. somehow this always reminds me of
I just hope the the boys all have tape worms in their bellies. I am kind of pissed off about this game. I have been to every home game except for Centenary and ULL, but have to miss this one because I am in Atlanta for work. I am going to miss the team claim a share of the SEC championship.
