and not a word, this team is going to be great this year in my opinion, i think the tigers can suprise alot of teams and might have a shot at the sec regular season title, oh yea by the way, is that new style uniforms again, please make up your mind athletic department, i also notice we have taken a step up to nike basketball jerseys, i also read that skip is spending 5 million big ones to bring in new seating in the p mac, thats great news, also read the comment near the bottom where tack minor talks about how our offensive philosophy this year is going to be run and gun, i can't wait to see minor and koundjia run the fast break, even though we are in the thick of the sec schedule in football, i am getting VERY excited about this year's basketball team, hopefully we can put 15,000 in the p mac for the tigers in all the home sec games as in my opinion, we will be putting a top 20 team on the hard wood

There should be some excitement once the season gets closer, but right now, it is football season in just about every Tiger fans eyes. But, with Minor, Koundija, Bass, Hudson, Mitchell, and now Davis this team should be pretty good.

    Run and Gun

LSU men's basketball to pick up pace this season

    By CARL DUBOIS

LSU coach John Brady talked about playing up-tempo basketball this season. He talked about wanting not just to be good, but to be great.

His Tigers appear to be buying it.

"It just seems like everybody is more focused this year," sophomore forward Brandon Bass said Tuesday at LSU Basketball Media Day. "I'm excited about it. Every Sunday we have meetings, and every Sunday he's just motivated me more and more for this season."

Senior guard Antonio Hudson said that's because Brady set five goals for the Tigers: Win the Southeastern Conference Western Division. Win the SEC championship. Reach the Elite Eight. Play in the Final Four.

    Win the national championship.

"We really didn't have that before," Hudson said. "Right now the whole attitude of the team has changed. Before seasons, we used to talk about just winning. Now we're talking about winning championships.

"Those are high expectations to live up to, but if we get that instilled in our brains that we're capable of doing it, that helps a lot."

Brady, preparing for his eighth season at LSU, said he wants the Tigers to play with an imaginary "16-second shot clock," or an "18-second shot clock," instead of reversing the ball and using more time to find a shot.

Bass said he's not about to argue.

"That style of basketball is what got me to be so highly recruited when I was in high school," said Bass, who averaged 18.5 points per game in his last two seasons at Capitol High School. "I'm loving it. I'm down with it."

Bass said the Tigers have the personnel to play an aggressive style.

"In street ball, that's what you do," Bass said. "When you play street ball you're just running and gunning. The difference is this is more organized.

"We get to run when we get a chance to make some easy buckets, or we're going to set up our offense if it's not there."

Hudson said the Tigers have to play smart to make it work.

"I think we're going to have to take the good with the bad," Hudson said. "When you run the ball, you've got to have people out on the floor that know when to run and when not to run.

"If we push it up the floor when we don't need to ... you see where I'm going with it? But I think it'll help the team out a whole lot. We've got guys who can run. Even our big men can run."

I was so glad to read that article about changing up the offense. We really needed to push the ball up more with the guys we had last year. Our guys are not set shooters, the need to run and gun. I look for Hudson and Mitchell to have really big years. With Minor, Bass, and Davis coming on strong as the season progresses.

This will be the a good year for basketball. And being that it is my last I am looking forward to seeing as many games as I can.

If he is at 330, then he'll be able to run, just not as fast as everyone else and for not as long. He really needs to shed some pounds to be able to hang. From today's paper:

    NO-BRAINER

Brady didn't need much time to think about his answer when asked if freshman forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis of University High would see a good bit of playing time early this season.

"Glen Davis? You betcha!" Brady said emphatically, wearing his best are-you-kidding-me smile as reporters in the Media Day conference room broke into laughter.

Brady said Davis stands 6-foot-8 1/2 with basketball shoes on and weighs about 321 pounds, down from 355 pounds a few months ago. Brady said the goal is for Davis to play at between 305 and 310 pounds.

"That should help with his conditioning and the fact that he's been susceptible to injury," Brady said.

Looking forward to the season. With guys like Tack and Regis you need to run as much as possible. Thought they should have played up tempo last year.

Wow...Football season must be slow for us to actually think this is all great news in the long term health of this program...

Everyone whose anyone knows this guy was fired-until Emmert was HIRED by U-Dub last year. It was actually one decision I wished he could have made before leaving.

Secondly...Run and gun? What did it take to make us realize that playing Mike Fratello basketball can't win on any level? The NCAA destroyed defensive minded teams when Wisconsin beat us on the way to the Final 4 four years ago...So you're going to HAVE to win with talented mid range players sprinkled with some gunners, some speedsters, and one dominant inside guy. You need to play D, but you've got to outscore.

We don't hear anything about Spencer Ford and that fiasco, nor about how we had to fill in with some PROJECT from McKinley, and act like he's going to be some contributor. Look at Ross Neltner-Mr. Basketball in Kentucky! How much of an "impact" was he? How can you say that this plug will do any better or make a mark any more delible than Neltner will?

We don't hear anything about the stud from the Lake Chuck area that Bob Knight walked in, snorted at us, got committed, and left without ever even losing sleep over us? Why couldn't we have signed him? He was the BEST PLAYER in the state!

    Hmmm....

We lost 7 out of 8 games last year after losing a guy who wasn't drafted...PERIOD...How good could he have possibly been in the grand scheme of things?

Lastly, I heard the ultimate nugget that made me laugh coming out of Media Days for Brady...

Seems like he reviewed stats from the past few years...and it seems that in comparison to the year in which they had a great scoring average and went to the Sweet 16, they had 1,800 shots.

Comparing that to the past few years, they found that they not only scored less points and had a worse scoring average, they-now follow this REAL CLOSELY!-TOOK LESS SHOTS!

WOW...Can you believe we overlooked this possible reason for LSU's lack of scoring?

Or how about Brady saying that he was going to run more? Hell, Brandon Bass is a gazelle...Minor a Cheetah...and Mitchell isn't exactly a slowpoke, either...What the HELL ELSE was he going to do?

Lastly...How much does this "newfound emphasis on offense and up-tempo" have to do with him turning over a new leaf (one year too damn late-he had the same team last year that could have run, too!)...

    ORRRRRRRRRRR...

How much does this have to do with him knowing that no matter the wins and losses in the early season on the pattycakes...no matter how much WONDERFUL defense his crappy offensive teams come up with...

He will LIVE AND DIE PROFESSIONALLY BY TOTAL & AVERAGE ATTENDANCE! His job performance will be dictated by whether or not the fans asses are in the stands...

Why else is it that no one else could reign him in, and now all of the sudden he's come to Jesus?

Give me a break...This guy let's money talk, and bullsh!t walk...and LSU let him know in no uncertain terms that they just took over the PMAC, the AD had a facelift in terms of the "bar" of averages for team performances...Now he's being made to toe the line...

He's doing this to save his job, because you can BET if he didn't have to, why would he all of the sudden change his philosophies?

Brady...Next thing you know, you'll say that in games in which we had too many traveling violations and double dribbles in comparison to others, we had a higher turnover margin in comparison to games in which there were lower traveling violations and doube dribbles...

This guy is a tool...You all keep drinking the Kool-Aid...I'm sure the Brady Butt Munch Lunch Bunch will be meeting here quite often for yet another season of consistent inconsistency, excuses, defiance, abrasive media flare-ups, disappointments, mid season runs, flameouts, blaming of players, unequal treatment of players, and all around stupidity...

He thanks you for your support, and as a comedian once said, "Here's Your Sign"
