If you are a football coach long enough, you will cross paths with numerous men that end up as head coaches or as offensive or defensive coordinators.

That is the case with Nicholls State head football coach Charlie Stubbs and new LSU offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe.

The Colonels coach took time out of his recruiting schedule to talk about the new Tigers offensive coordinator.

“Steve’s father, Dave, hired me at Oregon State in 1985 after I had spent a couple of seasons at Brigham Young under LaVell Edwards,” Stubbs said. “Matter of fact, Steve worked with me as a graduate assistant in 1989. That was his first coaching spot after he had played quarterback at West Texas State. But in this game you always seem to meet up again and that is what happened down the road for us.”

Stubbs had coaching stops at Memphis, Tennessee-Martin, Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of Alabama and then he was reunited with Steve Kragthorpe again at Tulsa.

“Steve did a very good job working with quarterbacks and offenses at Boston College and Texas A&M before he ended up with the Buffalo Bills in the early 2000’s,” Stubbs said. “His work with Drew Bledsoe at Buffalo and their offensive success got him the head coaching position with Tulsa and he hired me as his quarterback coach/offensive coordinator. “

Stubbs said that Tulsa was not loaded with great talent, but Kragthorpe did an excellent job piecing together an excellent football squad.

Great read. He also says krag enjoys throwing the ball to the tight end and running backs coming out the backfield.
