If Tex. wins out, plus the MNC, Mack Brown. If USC wins MNC, it could go to Weis, or possibly to Shula, both have done excellent jobs turning around programs headed in the wrong direction. I'd give my personal nod to Weis, as his turnaround has been cat quick. If Bama wins out (which I seriously doubt, I think the odds are better they have two losses than that they go undefeated), Shula gets the nod over Weis. If LSU wins out, a distinct possibility prior to the SECCG, wins the SECCG, and wins a new years day bowl, and we finish 12-1, Texas loses the MNC to USC, Bama has fallen, and ND drops another game, it could come to Miles, unless they give it to Pete Carol for winning another MNC. Miles needs help from others to win it. Mack Brown controls his own destiny and he has the hosses. Shula controls his destiny, but I don't think he has the hosses to close the deal this year. Who do I believe wins it? Mack Brown. Vince Young looks like the real deal to me. My Longhorn buds think he comes back for his Sr. season, cause all the longhorns do. Ricky Williams, Ced Benson, Derrick Johnson, Roy Williams. They said CMB brings in a pro player from the Cowboys to talk to the Jrs. about exactly what the pro game is like and what they can get out of playing another year in college, and they have all stayed for their Sr. season.
Whether he ends up winning it or not, he has still been nominated as one of the top 12 coaches in the country - doesn't sound like to bad of a hire to me.
it means absolutely nothing at all. the list of coach of the year winners that were fired and no longer coaching is probably much longer than those who didn't. 'first year with a program' winners that is. its usually the kiss of death. you dont want that award in the NFL either.
thats why the award is stupid in that situation. much of the credit is directly attributed to the prior coach's talent that the current coach had no control over. unless the coach took over a loser program yet won win the talent that had never won before, a la, Weis. much of this teams success is directly due to saban's efforts which turned this program completely around. if you fail to see that, then you're as blind as the idiots you declare, clair. if Miles had lost 4 games to this point, you'd know he probably sucked as a bigtime head coach. currently, we dont have enough history to determine. its ok to think hes great if you wish. everyone has their opinion. he seems ok so far.
He has inherited a mansion, whereas Saban inherited a trailor... But we have been in 4 close games... If we win 75% of our really close games, like we have so far, we will be okay... because you figure, you only play 3-4 really tight ones a year
i get the feeling we may have a history of playing close games under miles from here to eternity. as long as we win them I'll take it.
Clair I have noticed myself agreeing with you alot more lately. That LSU education is really starting to pay off for you. When you first got here you reminded me of an Auburn fan. you babbled, drooled , and took a bath once a week with your grown sister. ( Auburn Fan ) Now you drink , cuss like a sailor, and wash every other day with a girl you just met ( LSU Fan ) Congratulations
But when your "new" coach just so happens to have the #3 ranked recruiting class in the country, chaces are, he's doing the same job that the former coach did, AND he's recruiting the same type of talent/players. If Miles was 6-1, but had a recruiting class that was say, lower 20's, THEN I could understand someone saying "but he's winning with someone else's talent". Right now, that statement may hold some truth, but the reality is that Miles is recruiting his OWN players and they are STILL top #3 recruiting class in the nation.
