Miles Respect

Great quote bhelm, and that's exactly how I see it. Les deserves some respect. I think he does it differently than saban, it's not all about HIM. He needs Pelini and he needs Crowton to succeed and recruit well, but there is nothing wrong about needing your coordinators to earn the big bucks they are being paid. nick needed Jimbo to succeed as well.

Those boys at CFN seem pretty smart. I've seen many other good articles from them.

 

I think a lot of people remember the silly fake punt v. Arizona State and the complete collapse v. Tennessee. Plus, he is not much of a wordsmith when interviewed.

The important things are: Do his players believe in him? Is he surrounded by a good staff? Does he recruit? I think the answers to all of these are yes.

I'd like to see more substantial in-game strategy maneuvers when things aren't working out. Throwing your talent out there and having them do their thing is great, but when the game really turns into a chess match - that's where a coach's reputation is built.

CFN really has the best football analysis out there, and Fiutak is a great sports writer. It's really the only site out there that doesn't buy into the model of piss-people-off-to-get-readership. Instead they give informative and balanced coverage and honest analysis of the news.

It doesn't hurt, of course, that they're very friendly to us.

 

The only people Miles needs to respect him is his wife, his kids, his players and the man that signs his check. It's nice for all the others to respect him too but not needed. Hopefully Miles is more worried about continuing to do what he has been doing and letting the respect thing take care of itself.

 

Hmm.. I think you're incorrect. As a coach, you need media respect in order to build and maintain a recruiting base. Look at Weis out at Notre Dame. They're getting solid recruiting now ONLY because the media respects Weis so much.

 

That's a pretty strong assumption. I think facilities and tradition may have a little to do with it also.

 

IMO you are dead wrong, the media has always been on ND's jock no matter who the coach because of the large media market they have. Wins and losses along with the state of the program and personality of the coach have tons to do with recruiting success. The media plays little or no part in recruiting, everyone knows the media is usually biased and clueless.

 

16,17 and 18 year old kids may not realize this. I think it plays some part, but it is not the only factor.

 

The respect will certainly come with titles. The most enjoyable part for me was reading again how Notre Dame is living on borrowed time.
