Well everyone can rest easy tonight. It appears the rumor running around Tuscaloosa that Nick Saban was coming to coach was untrue. Apparently, the other name floating around is Steve Spurrier. It is times like these that I am thankful I grew up in Tuscaloosa and have parents who are diehard Bama fans. This type of "news" from my hometown brings a smile to my face everytime. http://www.tidesports.com/article/20061122/NEWS/61122019/1016/NEWS
If Terry says Saban came crawling on his knees begging for the Bama job I believe him. After all it makes sense to leave the highest level with full control and 5 mil a year to make 2 mil rebuilding a college and no control team doesn't it?
I stand by what I've said knowing the validity of it...is that good enough for you? What would you expect an agent or coach to say publically when the job wasn't open? It is open now... Do you honestly understand how coaching searches are conducted on this level? I'll leave you with this thought. Because of posts like this, people who "jump on" information shared, that has driven people close to programs away from public forums. This thread is an example of just such a situation.
I will stand by Terry on this. He isn't into fabricating info, and doesn't publicly share everything he knows. If he said Saban's people contacted bama, believe it. With the statement from Saban's agent, I would think the two sides couldn't come to an agreement, the old: no offer was made\accepted\rejected used to cya comes into play. Then again, it may means things are about to heat up. In any case, Terry never represented any definitive content of those contacts, just that they had been made.
You seem to be credible to me. You never stated it in a boasting type of manner, always very "Matter of factly" and I agree with your analysis above. We heard the same **** before he dropped the bomb on us too. :thumb:
Terry is completely right. Before the Auburn game, Saban was offered the job. Shula met with Mal last Saturday and was asked about his changes he was going to make. Told him basicly that he was going to paint the door a brighter red and change out the toilet seat. Told him that he needed a better plan. I also was told that as of yesterday before he was fired, Jimbo had agreed to a one year deal and Stacey Searels was coming with him. I think Alabama would have kept Shula if he has some kind of plan. My sources here tell me that Spurrier is the #1 choice and Brother Bill Oliver is now making phone calls gathering up assistants. I just dont want to see Saban in Crimson and White.
I'm confused. How can Jimbo already have a deal in place and Spurrier be the # 1 choice. If Bama already has Jimbo as its coach, the alleged search is over. Not doubting you, but I doubt its as clear as you state. Wouldn't surprise me if Jimbo lands the job though.
Partly right, partly wrong. Spurrier thing isn't happening even though there have been talks. IF he had a plan he would have had some consideration...problem is, he didn't, only had answers about this past season. What is being missed is it isn't on the field issues...that's only a symptom of the situation.
