1. Cate may be short at 6'0" to 6'1" but being that height didn't seem to bother Drew Tate in the Capital One Bowl. 2. According to Scout from May 26th, “It has been a busy spring for the family of Salt Lake City, Utah (Cottonwood HS) quarterback Alex Cate. While Alex was busy leading his high school baseball team the family was bombarded with over 25 official football offers. Alex’s dad, Scott, is a coach at Cottonwood so he was also busy this spring hosting countless coaches in his school office.” 3. Scout reported that Cate had offers from Miami (Fl), Michigan, Arizona, Nebraska, and Colorado. 4. Rivals reported that Iowa had offered him as well. 5. I also saw it reported that Cate plans to graduate early and be at LSU in January. 6. Scout reported, “As a junior, threw for 3586 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in completing 196 out of 379 attempts. He also had one rushing touchdown. Cate was named first team all-state. Coach's Comments: "Alex is a very gifted quarterback," said Cottonwood offensive coordinator Scott Cate. "For being just 16 years old, he has the poise of someone much older. He has a very good arm, and great feet in the pocket. His best quality is his understanding of the game. I put a great deal of decision making in our QB's hands, and he rarely makes mistakes." 7. The Desert News reported that Alex Cate was named MVP of Utah’s 5A Baseball All-Tournament Team. He was also All-State honorable mention for baseball. He plays third base. 8. The Salt Lake Tribune reported, “The last day of high school football saw Davis and Cottonwood playing in one of the greatest championship games in Utah history, with the Darts winning 50-43 in overtime for the Class 5-A title. MVP Bryan Kariya scored on a 35-yard run to claim the win. Cottonwood quarterback Alex Cate set championship game records for total offense (458), passing yards (463), passing attempts (53) and passing touchdowns (5).” 9. The Arizona Daily Star reported, “After Arizona became the first to offer Cottonwood (Utah) High quarterback Alex Cate a scholarship, Cate has since been offered by Nebraska, Miami, Colorado and Michigan.”
