http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2849498 Looks like ND will get to back door their way into the BCS again.
So no changes to the BCS format through the 2009 season... three seasons... but the committee will continue to meet semi-annually, which includes golf, cocktails and dinner. I always get on the wrong committees.
I don't think they want another spanking...seriously, I remember reading on "Their" forum that they were pissed being pitted with such a mismatch with LSU......DUH, then get where you belong, like the GMAC Bowl.
I'll have to check but I thought nd had a contract guaranteeing them a BCS game with an 8 win season. Less than 8 and they're out.
I think there is a BCS ranking stipulation also. Maybe they have to be in the top 10? or 12? Hopefully an 8-4 ND team is not in the BCS top 12.
I think this is the ND rule, revised when they went to five BCS games. A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings. (Florida State got in with 8 wins because they won the ACC)
That sounds right. I emailed a sports attorney friend to verify but haven't heard back yet. I'd be willing to bet though that with 8 wins and at least a top 10 standing, they'd get a BCS game. Let's face it after 9 consecutive bowl losses, the law of averages dictates a win even if talent doesn't. Edit: Here's the link with the detail. Amazing how much singular attention the irish get. Anyway, looks like a Top 10ranking OR 9 wins and they are guaranteed a BCS game http://www.fedex.com/us/sports/orangebowl/bcs.html
