1. Davis - pulls out and rightfully so... he needs a break 2. Petrino - would be an interesting choice but not sure he can compete at a higher level than C-USA. 3. Tuberville - name shouldn't even be on the list, will never happen. 4. Tedford - laid back California guy, doesn't seem to fit in down here, don't expect him to be interested. 5. Spurrier - don't expect him to renig on USC that quick, although he will regret joining others in the "Coaching Graveyard" see Dietzel, Holtz. 6. Les Miles - don't know enough about him to gauge his fit, but just seems a little small time for LSU. 7. Norm Chow - I really like him, but doesn't seem that he will be leaving the left coast. Will probably go to BYU eventually as a head coach. 8. Jimbo Fischer - I love the guy, but he is too young and not enough experience... see Zook at UF. 9. Erickson - seems to run dirty programs, wouldn't want this for my alma mater, but if he has reformed his ways... 10. Any NFL asst. - will be a disappointment or will leave first chance for greener pastures in the NFL, but still may have enough ummph to keep us at this same level. Names I believe should be in the pool (disagree if you wish): 1. Mike Price - would be tearing it up at Bama right now, guy knows how to win games. 2. Frank Solich - although most think the option is dead, I believe if utilized correctly, could be effective. (won't happen just saying what I think) 3. Danny Ford - used to coach at Clemson, won a title in '80, good coach. 4. Brent Venables - guy could keep our D intact and with the right OC could keep LSU at the top. 5. Mike Stoops - Didn't show much this year at Zona but has been recruiting well, believe at LSU he could truly succeed. Add more if you wish or comment...
Whoo wee, you sure have some stinkers! Danny Ford? Uh, no. Venables and Stoops simply don't have the gravitas to coach at LSU. Frank Solich? No thanks. I would love to see option football get back in vogue, but, I think it would suicide to run it, all the kids these days want to go to a school that runs a pro-style offense. (Which is a shame ... college football is different than pro football, and much more interesting and less robotic and predictable.) With Davis out, the two "names" on the list are Petrino and Del Rio. I would be happy w/ either of them, or, Rich Rodriguez. Les Miles strikes me as a Curley Hallman. Mike Nolan is interesting. Shanahan is VERY interesting but I don't see him moving from the NFL. If the Broncos fired (which I don't think they will) I think another NFL team would scoop him up. :tigerhead
He was an NFL coordinator and has been an SEC coordinator. You don't think the NFL is a high enough level of competition. And, why would you be disappointed in any NFL coordinator? I would be happy to have our next coach leave for a head coaching job in the NFL. That would mean he won big at LSU.
