I must admit that when I heard Nick Saban was coming to LSU I was in the show me camp. However after hearing how the interview went and what was on Saban's mind I was impressed. Of course I only heard about the interview after Saban had success at LSU. He has done great things for the University,State and Student Athletes. LSU is on the right track and better days are ahead of us. Nothing wrong with where we are but I sure hope in 10 years we are not still talking about the 1999 - 2004 years. Some of the names I hear being mentioned do not strike me as doing the things many of us like from Saban. Like ensuring we get grad rates up, no trouble makers and if anything pop's up it's delt with you guys know what I mean. These are some of the intangibles I like about Coach Saban and I sure hope to enjoy them for at least the next 5 years. Thinking if we get past this Miami thing his Daughter will be in high school and not be uprooted. Winning is a good thing but winning with class is great.
Saban is a rare breed. Someone who has success, and does it the right way. You can go out and get someone like an Erickson and hope he doesn't get your program in trouble (as he did in Miami). You can go out and get someone like a Petrino, and hope he does have success at the same level we are currently enjoying. But to have both, the ethics and the success....that's a much bigger deal.
I think the same thing If he stays now, he'll be here a while. But I thought that last year after the Chicago deal....and the Atlanta deal....oh and the Jacksonville thing......
If he stays his daughter starts high school next year. I think he will not move until after she graduates If he stays
What I like about Saban are the intangibles. The brings an air of professionality to the players I've never before seen in my lifetime as an LSU fan (I'm 33). You can't quantify that. We can't search for a coach that has a 95% professional rating. Saban is THE man. If he leaves for the Dolphins, I'll wish him success. But the search committee needs to seek out-somehow-a man with the discipline and professional dignity that Saban possesses. Just my two cents.
