Well... believe it or not, I think this is a winable game... I just watched ASU beat Rutgers with a backup QB who: A.) Isn't as good as Flynn B.) Has less weapons than Flynn, so we can do this The keys are: 1.) Running the ball.. We must have a steady, constant 3-4 yd gain via the run to loosen things up to keep Matt Flynn out of the 3rd and 9's all game long. 2.) Protection... We must protect Flynn. This is his 1st real action as the starter, but he won't know some of the little tricks and things that JR does, b/c of lack of PT, so we will need to allow him to take his time. 3.) Get to the QB... Our defense hasn't gotten a takeaway in a big spot in a LONG time... I think we need to go out there and rush the Miami QB into some mistakes. Their kid is good, but he has a tendency to make critical errors when you apply pressure. 4.) If we get down the field, we MUST score... Miami's d won't allow us many chances, so when we get close, we must score TDs, and when we get in intermediate range, we must make our FGs 5.) Also, we must get a solid effort from CJ. This game will be won in field position... If Jackson pins Miami inside the 10, and we hold them to 3 and out, we likely get the ball around our own 40. With a decent 35-40 play drive, we can kick 3; whereas, starting from the 20, we would be well out of FG range, so whoever has to go the least amount of yds to score will win. 6.) Penalties... It will be hard enough to get 10 yds in 3 plays... much less 15 or 20... 7.) Score early... I think that for whatever reason, this team has done a great job holding onto a lead minus Tennessee, so if we can get out early by 6-10 pts, I like our chances... All-in-all, I think it will be a dog fight, but I think Addai goes wild on his last game as a Tiger, and we pull it out: LSU 20 Miami 10
Miami will stack 9 in the box all night, especially since Miles is in love with his damn 2 tightend sets... when he goes 2 tight with a fb, expect 10 in the box... Of those 9 in the box, expect at least one non-lineman to rush every play.. miami is going to blitz often and if we dont keep enough guys in blocking, they can force Flynn into throwing dumb pass... My gameplan if i am miami is max protect. Worked against the Saban defense last year and will work against the Pelini defense this year.. max protect, watch the corners drop off deep and hit the 5 yard outs... if the corners press, hit quick slants and double flys throwing away from the FS... LSU is one of the best in the country in redzone offense... our problem hasnt been getting in the endzone, its been getting to the redzone... THis is the one element of the game that I am confident in. Jackson has been solid all year in the punting game. Turnovers and penalties have killed this season.. No, a coach doesnt jump offsides, but I still blame the coaches for the lack of discipline displayed by this team. If a child does something bad, its usually bad parenting.. same goes for coaching.. Miles sitting on a lead scares the sh*t out of me. I think the best way for this game to go is for the game to be close and stay that way.. seems to keep the team's heads in the game... I think the game comes down to Flynn. I think he will pull off a Matt Mauck SECCG style win, making alot of big plays on the ground because he doesnt know where to look past the 2nd reciever. He has better running ability than Mauck did and a coach more willing to see him run.
