There was an article in the advocate today that i would have much rather used, but i couldn't find it. I had to settle for this one written in May of 2004 in USA Today. I left off the end of the article because the information was outdated. I am not sure if they were granted class action status, but the case was cleared for trial by a federal judge this week. It is being treated as an anti-trust case. This guy is contending that the NCAA has a monopoly on college football and that because of that he was hurt (not getting a scholarship when he felt that he would have gotten one otherwise) The NCAA had no restrictions on shcollerships untill 1977. Since then the number has shrunken from 95 to 85. Obviously this rule is there to stop the big shcools from loading up on 5 stars (like the Bear use to do) and to keep the competition as even as possible between big and small schools. I am a bit undecided on this issue. On one hand I simpethise with that player because there are plenty of walk ons that are deserving of scholarships, but on the other hand i agree with the reasoning for having the restrictions.
