With NIL out of control, it's being reported that the NCAA is looking seriously at putting in guidelines in an attempt to gain some kind of control of the situation. I have one question, What did the NCAA expect to happen when they allowed NIL to begin without any kind of safeguards in place? It's like giving a career criminal the keys to the bank vault and asking him to be on their best behavior. IMO, the damage is done and regardless of any new rules that might be put on paper, NIL is a runaway train and not stopping anytime soon!
It's too late. Can't put this genie back in the bottle. Also, Mark Emmert's tenure as NCAA president will end next year.
No NCAA, no more National Championship game, no TV for teams not ranked Top 10 or higher, no Bowl system or playoff system. No recruiting rules, such as 25 a year. Who would reinforce even that simple guideline? Schools can claims NCs by their AP & Coaching rankings. Like in pre 1936 days. So #5 Texas A&M can claim the NC & there's nobody to say BS except TV talking heads. Wouldn't matter, they hang the banner anyway. Much more to consider than a bunch of Ham-fisted college presidents & ADs trying to pound out any sort of legitimate or working system.
dunno why there would be any problems. administrators that dont work for the NCAA exist and can sign tv deals and organize tournaments etc just the same.
I think the NCAA will always be around. In what role and how much power will they yield is the big question. When coaches like Saban and Kelly are complaining about it, the NCAA has to at least appear to do something about NIL. Personally, I think the big time coaches are complaining because now they have a lot more competition in landing the elite players, and if they do land them, they still have to fight off other schools to keep them at their schools.
None of that is governed by the NCAA, the only thing that has the NCAA name on it is the basketball tournament. The P5 could in fact tell the NCAA to shove it up their ass! I hope they do. They will most probably adopt many of the same rules already in place and dump all of the stupid ones. Long time coming!
