A few years back, a friend of mine had a son that was a hotshot HS trombone player. He eventually went to Texas Tech on a music scholarship. However, when he was still in high school he went to BR for a week to attend a band camp at LSU. He was so impressed that he moved LSU near the top of his list of options. He never made any effort to enroll at LSU and when he graduated he went with his first choice TX Tech. That was several years back. My friend has passed away and his son has moved on to somewhere in California. As luck would have it, my nephew has become a real hot shot trombone player in his school's band (All-city for starters). He thinks he wants to be an Aggie. I'd like him to give LSU a look. After all, his whole family is from Louisiana. Does LSU sponsor a band camp for high schoolers? If so, where might I find info? Oh, yeah! If you want to make an "American Pie" reference in this thread, go ahead. I can't stop ya!
I bet you could find something on the university site. They hae a link to the band. THere are also a few band members here that post. Maybe they can chime in.
LSU sponsors the High School Honors Chamber Winds Camp in the summer, more info can be found at http://www.bands.lsu.edu/index.php. Hope this helps.
Although I wouldn't recommend that if he is solely interested in Tiger Band.... If he isn't a senior yet, then he can try and call the band office and schedule a game for next year where he could maybe walk in with the band and sit with us. The more boring games those seats are usually vacant in front of us. There is also an Auxilliary and Leadership Workshop, but that is more of a Drum Major Camp or Colorguard camp....
