Can somebody please explain to me how Saban is going to handle having such an oversigning class when we only had like 21 spots to begin with? How many are going to be greyshirted? How many will go to junior colleges? I just don't want to hear that we are either going to get in trouble with the NCAA or we are going to have to pull scholarship offers from kids who committed 5-10 months ago.
In Nick we Trust Greyshirts, might find someone to come on academic or TOPS, He may know of some transfers, we will know soon enough. I dont think we have to worry about any violations
Also, bear in mind that scholarships aren't 4 year deals, but rather renewable on a year by year basis. Coach Saban may have some kids that he feels just aren't working out, in which case, he'd give them the option of transferring or staying as a walk on...but either way, he's going to have to pull their schollie.
here are a few open it appears.. Shy Carey Matt Mauck Michael Clayton if the deep snapper was on scholly, consider it gone too you have to figure some of these recruits, 2 or 3, will not qualify. it happens every year. i see us with 24-26 schollys, which will but us on target with our class we have currently.
Some of the players that have given LSU verbals are academically unqualified, like Quinn Johnson, Charles Alexander, Harry Coleman, and if Max Emfinger is correct, Lavelle Hawkins. I imagine all these players will either go the gray shirt or junior college routes.
For every player we sign over 25, one player will eventually be an academic casualty or have his offer withdrawn. But they don't count until August. Also looming in August is the 85 total scholarship limit. We only have 21 spots to give to be under 85. Of course there will be academic casualties on the current squad and transfers at a few overloaded positions. Nick can always take back a scholarship from a walk-on if he has to. My guess Nick already suspects how many transfers and flunk-outs he will be dealing with and will oversign accordingly.
A few clarifications... Saban will not pull any offers from committed players. If he were to do that, he would lose credibility with future recruits. Overall numbers: there must be a number of players that will transfer after this semester. You can be sure that Saban knows who they are (at least enough of them that he knows he can sign a full class). I feel certain that he would not ask a player to give up their scolly unless they have broken team rules. Again, he would lose credibility with the players. For every spot we sign over 25, Saban has either worked out a TOPS scholly offer, a greyshirt, or a JUCO placement. You can rest assured that he worked that out as the players committed using conditional offers. A big component of Saban's genious is that he is very organized and is aware of every detail.
did Shyrone Carey lose his scholly or something.......why is his scholly open??? Did I miss something??
Nick Saban is a consummate and compulsive planner. You can believe that he has a viable contingency plan for any reasonably predictable event in terms of who does and does not qualify, which present players do and do not transfer or quit, etc., and those plans are how they came up with the number that we could sign without running afoul of the NCAA.
