First off, to acknowledge a couple of our posters who’d already started threads on this book: http://69.93.172.10/~tigerfor/showthread.php?t=57839&highlight=rains+tiger+stadium http://69.93.172.10/~tigerfor/showthread.php?p=668050&highlight=rains+tiger+stadium Based on some of your recommendations here, I picked up the book today at Books A Million in Alexandria. Our softball tourn was rained out so I offered my teenager to go to the mall to "Shop" and get her a couple of outfits. Well, naturally, she wanted to know if she could invite a friend so I ended up with 5 teenagers bee boppin around the Mall. I sat and started reading it while they were doing their thang and love it so far. I was blow you away after the first chapter on how hard it is to “Walk away” when their playing days are over and fans aren’t lining up to get their autographs, hometown press coverage a thing of the past, etc. Since I’m not one to keep books, tigerintn gave me an idea. After I read it I’ve offered it to a friend; however, after they read it, I’d like to offer it to any posters who are interested and we could do a TF Book Club type of thing. Any members who post saying they’d like to read it will get it in the order they post. I’ll send it to the first one to post and after they read it they can forward it to the next. I tried to get the book "The Meat Locker" too but ma dumb azz thought the name was "The Meat Market" :nope: and since it doesn't exist, obviously they couldn't find it at BAM. I checked at Waldenbooks (sp?) in the Mall and the lady said, "Oh, The Meat Locker"...they were soldout. I plan to get that one the next time I go to Alec or Laf. and would be glad to do the same. This may be a lame idea and no offense if none are interested, just wanted to offer it cause, it is a great read, so far. To keep this post short(er) I will post the publisher’s summary on the next frame if anyone is interested...don’t want John to get on my azz for a long post.
Alexandria's a good town..has this really awesome chinese place. Last time I was there I bought this book, now that I think about it. And a cup of coffee because it was like sleeting.
Tiga, happy to hear you found the book. How much was it? I'm happy to send my book to anyone who wants to read it. Just wondering if the postage is as much as buying at a discount book store. Let me know what you think about the bus ride to his first LSU game. I thought he caught the whole experience quite well. I visually can see the whole trip.
Not sure, also bought the Times Official Licensed Souvenir Book of LSUand The One Minute Manager and don't recall the amount. About to go read some more though. Was raining cats & dogs this a.m.
Are you talking about this book? http://www.amazon.com/Meat-Market-S...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203217175&sr=8-1 If so, the name IS Meat Market. It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium is the last book I finished before the semester started (I was in the middle of The Perfect Season: LSU's Magic Year - 1958 when I had to give it up because of school reading crap) and I have to say that it was a pretty good book. It was kind of hard to follow at first (after the first chapter) to figure out what direction he was going in. It got very good towards the end, however.
Yeah that's it and I know, now. In my initial post, I'd mistakingly put The Meat Locker twice and when my puppet (That would be TB  ) rightfully called out my error I went back, editited it, and flip flopped 'em on purpose in honor of my idol (That would be nootch) and also to run TB's head and show my apprentice (That would be CajunlostinCali) how dam witty I am, so my haters (That would be too many to list) wouldn't come at me too hard. Hey, I just noticed this on your link: I wonder if that's our Jay B?
being the multi tasker i am i would like to think i am skilled enough to fall into both categories. meat market is a very good book imo.
