    I think the fact that the big ten has 6 voters, plus notre dame (who plays half of them), and the mac (the big ten's favored non-conference opponents) has 6 votes explains the high early season rankings that the big ten always has... I have to wonder if this numberical balance is a specific formula or if this is just how it come out this year.

    Yep, that must be it!!! Forget the fact that the SEC has the same # of voters as the Big Ten... there are six from the MAC.... just as there are 6 from C-USA and 4 from the Sun Belt... where the SEC gets many of their OOC opponents.
    ... but go ahead... as I'm sure you feel you have found "the lost scrolls"... ah, the logic we use...
