I would love to see a Las Vegas poll instead of AP, Coaches, Harris, etc... It seems like the gamblers always know much more than the sports writers. Why do you think Vegas had LSU as a 3 point favorite on the road, even though we had a lower ranking? Of course i am not serious with this post. I hope I see Div 1A playoffs in my lifetime.
That would be interesting. Kinda take the politics out and leave it to the money to decide. Definitely different criteria.
Or at LEAST a "Plus One". That way, you can match something like: 1 vs 4 2 vs 3 and then the winners for all the marbles! That way, you can still have the BCS games (adding the Cap One to make 5 BCS bowls and rotate through those 5 every 5th year to host the title game) That way, the Bowl committees are still happy because they don't do away completely with their bowl incomes, and the fans get, what boils down to a 4-team playoff. I don't want to do away completely with Bowl games because I like them and I like the idea that it gives teams something to play for at the end of the season. But I do think they're going a little over-board with the number of Bowl games. I think there's what? something like 56 bowl invites?!?! They need to narrow that down some....err....make that a lot. I wish they would reduce it to something like: 12-team BCS conferences only get 4 Bowl teams (the conference champ, the runner up and possibly the runners up in each division) Big Ten and Pac-10 each get 3 (conference champ, runner up, and an at-large) Big East, CUSA and Mountain West each get 2 (champ and runner up) SunBelt and MAC each get 1 (conference champ) Indys (Notre Dame, etc.) get 2 spots. That gives us 26 teams, 14 bowls (actually 15 with the plus-one).
LOL. Vegas did not have you as winning the game. The bettors of the game had you favored to win by the spread. Vegas sets its original line. Then the early bettors make their bets. Then the line moves usually one way or the other to even up the amount of bets on both sides. That is the safest way for Vegas to win money. They lose on the winners. But they collect on the losers and the vig's that the losers pay when they place their bets. Concept is for Vegas to break even on winners and losers, but to collect the vig's creating profit for the casino. Vegas did not think LSU was going to win. They did not think LSU was going to lose either. It was the betting public in Vegas that thought LSU was going to win. :thumb:
If there was no spread, and LSU was playing Tennessee tomorrow, would you bet? I know I would! And it wouldn't be on Tennessee. :hihi:
I apologize for not clearing things up in my original post. When I say Vegas, I mean the bettors. The bettors are Vegas. With out them there is no Vegas. What makes a fat sportswriter with a biased or non-biased opinion more valid than people who put their own money on the line? I also said that this was not a serious post. I am just frustrated with the current college football ranking system. We need playoffs. Period.
It would be cool to have a Vegas Poll instead of the Harris poll. I want a playoff more than the next guy, but those with power are sure against it. I respect the AP Poll, but not so much the Coaches' Poll. And the Harris Poll is a joke, or has been.
