I don't much care for most of the new rules being implemented. I definitely like a coach getting an extra challenge if one of his is upheld. Other than that I have serious concerns. I definately don't like the new 40-second clock rule. It can be a big disadvantge for those teams that like to make rotate players a lot. And it can be a huge bonus for no-huddle spread offenses. I definately don't like not giving teams or coaches warnings for crowding the sidelines before levying a 5-yard penalty. And I am not crazy about eliminating the 5-yard penalty for an incidental face mask violation. It seems to me all this means is that there are going to be a lot of penalties and the zebras will be determining the outcome of a lot more games. Any thougts?
Here's a thought.... When will people freaking learn that when something isn't broken, it doesn't need fixing? These little pieces of crap seem to believe that they have to tweak something every stinking year. Why won't they leave well enough alone?
I'm wondering if maybe incidental facemask incidents might just be overlooked. Otherwise, as an LSU fan, I hate the 40 second clock. How many audibles and changes led to near-penalties last year? A ton. This year, green(ish) quarterbacks, oh boy. I'm hopeful, but realistic. Standby for timeouts and flags.
They needed to shorten the games without reducing the number of plays. This works in the NFL, I'm willing to give it a try. I think it benefits teams who have their acts together. Warnings are another waste of time. The line is painted on the field and it's a penalty to cross it. They just need to live with this. There should be fewer penalties. The "incidental" facemask should have never been a penalty. It's a "no call" if your hand passes across a facemask without grabbing it, like it always should have been.
That was the intent of the rule. Facemaking will not be called unless the mask is grasped and the players head is pulled.
