    How will the SEC's newest coaches fare??

    There's Ed "O" Orgeron at Ole Miss. St. Urban Meyer at Florida. Coach Les Miles at LSU (Does he need a nickname too?) & the Ole Ball Coach, Spurrier at South Carolina.

    My opinion:
    Orgeron has never even been a coordinator before, much less gotten any kind of head coaching experience before comming into Ole Miss. His personality has already caused problems there with 2 of their coaches having been arrested for alcohol related incidents once he was named head coach. His team isn't all that talented at Ole Miss. He didn't put together a particularly exceptional staff or recruiting class. However, he's supposedly one of the best recruiters in the country & a very good line coach that coaches with intensity & could cause problems for LSU especially because of the rivalry factor. I don't see Orgeron being Ole Miss' savior. Their last coach brought them to their pinnacle & that didn't include any championships. Don't expect anything more from this chump.

    Urban Meyer, recently the coach of the year & the man that is supposed to bring Florida football back to the way it was under Spurrier. I really like his attitudes on keeping players in line & making them work hard on & off the field. He's been hailed as an offensive genuis & inherits the SEC's best QB - Chris Leak. It remains to be seen if Meyer can coach a big time team in a big time conference. He won't have much time to prove it as Florida fans expect immediate results. Meyer's longest stints thus far have been for only 2 years & he hasn't shown that he can recruit & coach his own players just yet. For Meyer's future, I don't see any way he doesn't improv on previous coach Ron Zook's record. Florida could turn back into a national power but won't run the SEC like the days of Spurrier because it's a much more talented conference now than it as then.

    Steve Spurrier... One of the greatest coaches of all time while on his run in the 90's with Florida. There's no denying his ability to coach. However some things at the end of his time at Florida pointed to the idea that he wasn't as interested any more & didn't dedicate himself to football, but rather golf. He comes into a rough situation at South Carolina with them just admitting to 10 NCAA infractions & could be facing some punishment. They have a rabid fan base just waiting for a good coach, but not a particularly fertile recruiting base & not much talent currently on the team. I will be amazed if Spurrier is able to win championships with South Carolina. I think he will be able to improve them & make them a regular 8 win team, but don't see him at the SECCG any time soon.

    Coach Les Miles has been a head coach in a major conference, the Big 12, and has shown his ability to win big games beating Oklahoma twice. Miles inherits a much more talented team than any of these other coaches; no time at all needed to start winning because this team already knows how to win. With less time than any of the other coaches (from the time they were announced) he managed to put together the best recruiting class out of all of them (top 10 or even 5 by avg recruit ranking) & one of the best staffs in the country - including a DC & OC that will both be head coaches at a University some time soon. He hasn't just talked about his work ethic, he's shown it. With Louisiana's natural recruiting base there's no reason to think Miles won't continue to bring in top-rated classes. I think Miles will be able to have one of the highest winning percentages in the country over the next few years.

    Well, time to pat myself on the back for this post (even if it didn't get any responses the first time around). Particularly this part, "I think Miles will be able to have one of the highest winning percentages in the country over the next few years."

    It appears the only thing I was off on was Chris Leak being the best QB in the league. :hihi:

    Little did we know how "nicknameable" our new coach would be in those last days of 2005 before Katrina rocked Louisiana's world. Lesticles, The Hat, The Mad Hatter?

    No way in hell Essie hires him:

    1. He was accurate, incisive and rational;

    2. His opinion was not biased toward USC, the Upper Midwest and the East where all the known television sets exists;

    3. He delivered an assessment about schools in the South where the native people have only recently discovered electricity to say nothing of their knowledge of "television" or "cable;"

    4. In its factual assertions it was truthful -- no false claims from "sources" who are neither corroborated nor reputable;

    Even if the Essie ladies hired him, he would be fired within a weak.

    Oh, and breaking news from Kirk Herbstreit at ESPN: sources report that CParso will come out of the closet as a rabid Alabama fan on Monday morning.
