Didn't see this posted anywhere and it's the first I heard of this. USC was fined $5,000 by the SEC office for allowing its fans to rush the court. This new policy will apply to football as well. ESPN - Gamecocks Fined!
Good policy but is 5k really going to make schools stop their students? I wonder when Vandy beats either UT, UF, or UGA some day
This is why at the end of the LSU-UF basketball game Dan Borne was emphatically reminding the fans to stay off the court at the end of the game.
Good call. . . On a side note, was very disappointed when B.C. students rushed floor after win over Syracuse this weekend. What's the understood but unsaid rule for rushing floor vs. an opponent when the home team is higher ranked and expected to win (despite perhaps years of anguished losing to opponent?)
There was an "Around the Horn" discussion on this rule when it was released that there would be fines. Woody Paige thought it was a great idea for safety reasons. One of the younger guys thought it was one of the things that makes college athletics great, and you can't sacrifice everything enjoyable to completely eliminate any risk of injury. I think I am definately of the same opinion as the latter, and if a no.1 team ever falls in Tiger Stadium like 1997, I hope the field is rushed. Now the goal posts that's another story. Not for safety reasons, it just seemed stupid.
So because I hate rules like this. I did not see around the horn. But I like it to be fare. How many people have to rush the playing surface for the fine to be in play. Is it 2 or two hunded. I hate these judgement calls. Where does the money go? In all reality these fines are bull. Very rarely does a team celebrate with the fans rushing the field more than once in a year. I think last year one guy from Nebraska cocked a fan that was on the field. Any way would LSU be in position to be fined if something like activities against OSU took place again? If so you really think LSU would give a rats @@@ about the little fie in the scheme of how much cash is brought in. Or how about a few years back against Tenn. Iam not endorsing going o the field. I have never done it. But get real with these Bull####rules. :dis:
Yeah, they reminded fans throughout the Florida game on Saturday of the new rules in the SEC regarding this issue.
