I see LSU is going back to basics and teaching tackles to wrap up the backs and receivers rather than simply body-blocking them. Body-blocking has always been a pet peeve of mine, so to my way of thinking it is great that LSU is reverting back to the old traditional style of tackling. That is what they should have been teaching all along. It aggravates me to see a runner gain an extra 20 yards because a defender was too damned lazy to wrap him up. Kuddos to the LSU coaching staff.
I think it is interesting how important fundamentals are, even when playing at such a high level. It should be a lesson for everyday life.
Where do you get the idea that LSU tackles have been "body blocking" instead of tackling? I haven't seen that.
the defense is usually one of the best but those that attended ole miss last year knew the tackling got lazy. gotta be solid fundamentally, good job, bo!!!!
I cant imagine that they would ever teach anything else. I've actually never heard of any school at any level teach anything else.
I saw it mentioned on DandyDon today and Flynn made a quote about it in the advocate article about how the scrimmage went. FYI Miles said the next scrimmage will have more of the 1st teams going up against each other. LINK
The quote about breaking through tackles is because this was a scrimmage, where as before the RBs would stop as soon as they were touched. I don't think anything is different about our tackling.
You are absolutely correct. I have a horrible habit of starting a thread but not including a link. Will try to stop doing that. But I did see an article about it.
