Alex Cate, from SLC, Utah 6'1"/200/4.72 3437 yd and 40 TD as a Junior confirmed on Tigerbait.com and rivals.com anybody know anything else about him?
junior in HIGHSCHOOL... haha, I was thinking to myself: "he does know that we have a QB issue already..."
It sounds like LSU wanted him. I wonder what drew him to LSU, with all of our depth already for QB... Any idea how he'll be ranked?
Looks like he needs to put on a little wieght, but maybe he is still growing. This is a shocker to me. I didn't even realize we were heavily recruiting a QB. I guess he doesn't mind all the QB depth ahead of him. It seemed like there was good QB depth this year in recruiting by I guess Jimbo saw something in this kid he really liked. Hope he doesn't get homesick easily. Anyone seen video of this guy?
Congrats Alex and Welcome. Impressive highlights, not the strongest arm but gets it done very well. Doesnt seem to care the least about the competition.....which is awesome.
You also have to consider that some people dont mind sitting around until their junior year to start.. He could redshirt, then play behind RP.. if RP leaves early, that lets him start as a redshirt soph..
On the Rivals site, they have a former college assistant coach who scouted him. He describes Cate as a mature quarterback with a strong arm, outstanding confidence, and a quick release. BCS-quality quarterback We do need quarterbacks. We only have three. If Flynn were to fall to third on the depth chart, he might transfer. If Russell leads us to an undefeated season, he could possibly declare for the draft. Perrilloux could have a great baseball season; get drafted and leave for baseball. Perrilloux could win the starting job and become an outstanding quarterback as a true freshman ala Ainge, Leak, Ball, et cetera, which might result in Russell and Flynn transfering leaving us with one. Then there is always the injury bug. These are all what ifs but I think we could lose one of the three (Flynn) after this season to transfer (possibly). I would like us to sign two quarterbacks in this class. I think it is good to always have five of the 85 scholarship players as quarterbacks, so you don't have your season ruined by a projected starter who never develops as projected.
I had heard the talk fo RP playing baseball. Does anyone know if this is confirmed? How can he play BB and do Spring Practice? I can't see Miles letting RP missing any Spring practices to go play BB. What position does he play?
