Niswanger Claims 2 out of 3; Wins Draddy Award

NEW YORK -- Rudy Niswanger, the senior center for LSU's football team, became the 16th recipient of the Draddy Trophy, presented by HealthSouth, at The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame’s 48th Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday night.

Known in many circles as the "Academic" Heisman, the Draddy Trophy continues to be one of college football's most sought after and competitive awards, recognizing an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership. The award comes with a stunning 24-inch, 25-pound bronze trophy and a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship. A total of $300,000 was awarded to Niswanger and the other 15 Draddy Trophy Finalists, who each claimed $18,000 scholarships.

Rudy now has 2 of the 3 "Heisman" type awards (he won the Wurffle Award aka the "Humanitarian" Heisman last week) was named to the 1st team Academic All-American and is probably the smartest gut to ever play for the Tigers.

Major Kudos to Rudy. I wish we had more people like him. :geauxtige

That's awesome, he just keeps racking up the awards!!!

The scholarship is a nice award...glad he has the smarts to put it to use!

And the trophy sounds WAY better than The Boot.

Congrats Rudy he plays football at a nationally prominent university and has outstanding academics!!(Way to raise up the teams GPA RUDY! RUDY!):hihi: Reminds me a lot of a guy named Rodney Reed.
