The problem with this team is that we only have 8 seniors and none of them have taken the responsibility of taken charge of this team. Last year, we had Mauck and Peterman who led the offense, Lavalias and Hunt who led the defense. Spears who was supposed to step up this year and lead the defense, but that has not happened. This team has no leadership from a player's standpoint. The coaches can only do so much. The players have to also take charge and be responsible for there commitment. The young players need to learn this, but none of the older players are doing this. Hopefully some of this year's junior class will step up next year and provide senior leadership. :geaux:
I really thought that Spears would be a huge leader for us this year. Hopefully he will step up the 2nd half of the season.
Spears, Turner, Williams, Webster and Daniels should all be leading on D. I dont know what their deal is.
I can only assume that these guys were used to having the other guys, Mauck, Hunt, etc... around them being the true leaders and they didn't have to actually take that role. With them gone, no one has really taken over that responsibilty for the team. I think if one or more of these guys steps up and really takes charge, it would help the mental part of the game. We have the talent, maybe not the experience, but definitely the talent and with true "player" leadership on the field I think this team could really play better than they have so far.
It seems that Spears, Webster (who almost hurt himself coaching), Randle, and Addai have taken "ownership" of this team. I am glad that this has finally happened.
