That's one of the things that leads me to think we win this one. If the focus is on what happened in January, it's in the wrong place. It's a different team, a different year. I like the point of LSU having a bye week before the game because if all the focus of the team is like this post, it's in the wrong place. I suspect the team has heard about the January game all week this week, and the preceding week. Two weeks to think about a loss? I realize getting revenge has it's place in the heart of fans. If that's a sole reason for a team to get prepared for a game you have to ask a question. What happens when they get down? What happens when the offense has a hard time moving the ball? Answer: They remember last year. I look forward to this game because I LOVE good football games. This has all the ingredients. All that said, if one believes revenge leads to victory it's the wrong motive going into this game. It's not the right mindset for a team to have when they are facing this Alabama team. LSU needs to take this game one play at a time and winning that play. THAT is the main ingredient for success.
Did you ever play organized sports? I did, but in high school. One year my team was expected to kick some ass in our district tournament and we were a little cocky. We got beat by a team we had kicked the shit out of earlier that year. They embarrassed us, and they did it when the tourney was at our home. The 3rd game of the season the year before? All the seniors (myself included) remembered it, and we didn't let the new guys forget that that game was about revenge. We had 2 guys with triple doubles, and I missed a triple double myself simply on the matter of only scoring 8 points, but having 15 rebounds and 11 blocks. Revenge is most definitely a motivating factor when it comes in, and its a very powerful one. This team got embarrassed last year and more than a few of these players can't wait to set the wrongs to right.
Did I ever play organized sports? OK. You're missing the point. If the focus is on January, it's not where it should be. If this game is all about "righting wrongs," what happens when (and this is only a hypothetical) the Tigers are down 14-0? Are they still thinking about January?
"The only verdict is vengance, a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous"
To avenge...get revenge...make amends. Whatever you want to call it or not call it, this game should come with extra motivation and determination by this team because of what happened last year. It will be a rallying call in my opinion if we get down. Emotion+intensity=adrenaline
It would be naive to suggest that our team think "only about this year" and not the debacle on January 9th. They will be thinking about it, and I believe it will give us the edge. Before the BCSNCG, the Bama players looked like they could chew through steel. They were out for revenge. So shall the Tigers...
This. Bama players talked a lot about "restoring the order" of things. Revenge fueled their domination of us, and we got complacent. They simply wanted it more. That will be us. I read today that a Bama player is calling this a "revenge" game..."revenge" for us "stealing" their conference championship from them last year. "All we got was the National Championship." Oh, really...that's ALL you got? Poor baby...
