1. My wish list for the northwestern game:
    1) work on the passing game. We need to get the quick drop and fire short timing routes down. We must get the long pass threat down also. Without this we won't beat the sec big boys.
    2) Get mett some reps. Were one play away from starting an unproven qb. Mett should play most of the second half. He needs atleast four drives with the #1 offense.
    3) get your starters off the field early. The offensive line is nicked up and sec play starts in less than two weeks. Get them healthy.
    Don't let our starting defensive front get hurt. No need to risk them aginst northwestern all game
    4) get our kicker some game experience on the fakes. We need him to be able to pull a Josh Jasper when needed
    5) expand on the use of the fullback. Stampley was a floppin beast. We should work on getting him even more reps. He was a beast blocking aginst a stacked front. A great big brutal fullback will beat the hell out of safeties coming up to assist in tackles. Stampley will block his way into the NFL and will lead the way for lsu to Atlanta.

    I'm sure there is many more things that need to be on this list but this is my wish list. Special shout out to T-Bob. He did well steping in last week.

  2. I hope to see Magee and Gore with the ball in their hands.

    I agree Mett needs to see the field and he will. I doubt it will happen, but I would like to see him get two series in the first half, let Lee play through the third, then go Mett the full fourth. I think a more realistic expectation is for Mett to get the fourth. While Mett needs reps, Lee needs to get in a rythm with the WRs.

    I know it is not Miles' style to pass late in games when LSU has a big lead, but he has to get his QBs some reps throwing the ball in live game action, even if that mean letting Mett sling it around in the fourth.
  3. We should throw 40 times next game
  4. Minimum 40 attempts

    10-15 passes for Mett, he must get some reps in this game, don't blow the opportunity, don't want to see Mett on the field for the first time next season

    Work on outlet/safety valve passes. Work on passes out in the flat to the RB.
  5. Also these receivers are going to have to work on the crispness of their routes, getting separation from the DB's, and catching the damn football.

    Lee's gonna have to work on stepping into his passes, which should correct a lot of the inaccuracy problems.
  6. If the timing gets corrected as well as the route running, the drops will be limited. Most of the drops Saturday night resulted from receivers being hit at the point of catching the ball. What should have been easier catches turned into much more difficult ones.

    1. More decisive Lee
    2. Better route running
    3. Better hands
    4. Step into the throw for more zip

    There's the formula for our passing game.

    My personal preference for yardage breakdown this season would be (based on what I saw from the Oregon game):

    Rushing = 225
    Passing = 175
    Total = 400
  7. I agree with you except for a few points:

    #2.) Yes, Mett needs some reps but unless we're up by 28+ points by halftime, don't expect Miles to pull Lee just yet. Mett needs reps because, like you said, we're one play away from needing him to be our starter....however, Lee needs reps too and as our starter, his development and ability to work on mistakes takes priority over Mett playing "at least 4 drives with the #1 offense". Do you realize exactly how much time in a game "4 drives" ACTUALLY lasts?!?!?! To have Mett play the entire 2nd half + 4 drives with the #1 offense + subbing out some starters to avoid injury in light of the upcoming SEC schedule is a contradiction unto itself. You can't possibly have ALL of that happen. Impossible.

    Lee will start and play until Miles feels the team has a comfortable lead. Starters will take a seat and THEN Mett will play with the rest of the backups and the freshman players like Beckham, Landry, etc.

    #4). No fake FG will EVER be "practiced" vs cupcakes to be used later on vs a big opponent. Period. You don't practice fakes during games--it obviously puts your fakes on film for ALL your opponents to see. LSU shouldn't be running fake anything vs Northwestern St. To do so would be to add insult to an opponent that you're expected to beat conviencingly. Plus, with Peveto the NWST head coach, Miles WILL NOT be rubbing anything in his face. So, again, this suggestion makes no sense.

    #5). I see Miles continuing to utilize the FB position...but in all honesty, if "blowing up the safety" is what you want to see, then it usually indicates he's missed his assignment and passed up LB's....
  8. Something to consider: let's say our offensive time of possession is 30 minutes vs NSU and we play Mett @ QB the whole time, that is only a 02.5% increase over the 20 hours of practice he'll get next week anyway...so its not a substantial amount of time even if he plays the whole game. Also, the gameday atmosphere vs NSU will be pretty weak being that it is NSU. I do hope we see all our back-ups asap to protect our starters from injury.
  9. Mett and most of the backups in the 4th quarter...

  10. Lee needs to develop his timing with his receivers before State and West Virginia on the road. Mettenberger will see some mop up duty, but Lee has to pass and complete them and will be in for most of the game.
