See below for blog notes on LSU's spring practice by ESPN.com's Chris Low, who spent time with the team this week.

"Offensive line has cross-trained and placed a lot more emphasis on quickness and endurance. Vadal Alexander, for example, is in far better condition than he was last season."

"Sitting here with the LSU running backs, and man has Alfred Blue bulked up. He's a legit 6-2 and a chiseled 222 pounds."

"The goal is 85 or 90 plays a game on offense. It may take a while to get to that pace. Offensive line is out here now and getting after it. They were the first group on the field." (That's a nice goal to have, but I just don't see it happening. I don't even think Oregon runs that many per game, but I could be wrong about that.)

"Several people in and around the LSU program have told me today that Jarvis Landry is pound-for-pound one of the best football players on this team. He has great hands and has put on a show with some of his catches in practice this spring."

"Former LSU star running back Justin Vincent just stopped by. He's on the LSU staff now in player personnel role." (I didn't know JV was on staff)

"Just talked with LSU linebacker Lamin Barrow, who said there are a lot of hungry players on this defense itching to make their mark next season after playing behind great players the last two years. He said the Tigers are sick and tired of hearing about how they are going to drop off in 2013 because they lost so many underclassmen to the NFL."

Good stuff. The last time we focused on practicing at that level was before the Oregon game...and it paid dividends, as the team was in midseason form right out the gate.

Same here, but I still think 85-90 plays a game it a bit ambitious. I'd settle for scoring TDs vs FGs in the red zone, sustaining drives, flipping field position, and not having so many 3/outs.

I also can't wait to see the 1-2 punch of Hill and Blue. That will be awesome to watch.

Yes indeed. What Hill did, in his limited PT last year, was nothing short of incredible.

You know, it was alot like Justin Vincent's freshman campaign. If we could have held on that last 2 mins vs Bama, it could have been even more eerily similar.

This is great news for all the naysayers who think LSU is not going to be a power in the SEC.

Thanks for the pointing that out. I thought he had much less PT than that. How many starts did he have?

I think it just seems like he had fewer carries than he did bc he didn't really make his mark until the SC game.

He had a huge first down on a screen play in the Florida game, might have even gained the most yards on one play in that entire game for us. But seeing him run with the ball on that play you just knew he was gonna be special one day. Little did any of us know it would only take a week to find out.
