how did LSU 2003 defense rank among all d in history of college football? Is that something that exists???? just curious.. it is now time to focus Tigah fans :tigerhead
It seems that you would have to compare the defense to, say, the average performance of the top ten offenses for the given year; that is, if the defense allowed 15 ppg and the best ten offenses averaged 30 ppg, then you could give the defense a .500 score. Same could be done for yards allowed, etc. This would be the only way to compare the 03 defense to some of the teams in the 60's that had 3-0 or 6-3 scores. I think we need a resident computer geek for this one.
Not really related to the topic at hand but... Why do some people say/type/write "Tigahs" instead of "Tigers"?
Considering the entire season stats wise, maybe not up there with some of the great defenses of all time. But after the Florida game through the NC game, I can only say the OU defense of 2000 was as good from what I have ever seen.
Really the only way to compare the best defenses in history in my opinion would require a look at what the top teams did in any given year and also how you stopped your opponents compared to what those other teams did. Let's say for instance we gave up 10 points a game, how many did our opponents avg. against the rest of their schedule after taking our game out of the mix. To me that is what would be required to really know how the temas rank. Better to just for an opinion and say that the 2003 LSU defense was one of the top 5 D's in history. It's easier that way. :geaux:
