Skill level? This is not exactly a talented team. The fact that Voogd and Rolle get so much PT should tell you all you need to know about our talent level. Do you really think Voogd would be playing 20 minutes a game if he played at any other school in the top half of the SEC?
he's right up there with brad smalling as possibly the most overrated recruit in LSU history and dude, you are personally responsible for me disabling the viewing of sigs.
Ok, clearly this is time of the Brady bashers... losing so many in a row doesn't look good, even though the recent losses have been "respectable". Clearly, everyone hopes that you've got of the 7 games left, the next three are at least winnable. That puts you at 5-7 in the SEC. You hope then to steal a few against the "biggies" towards the end to help your cause with the committee, and you hope for a run in the SEC tourney. Even then we're hoping for a miracle. The faith is certainly tested... :bncry: I'll save the fire brady discussion for another thread at the end of the season, but I just wanted to make this observation tonight... As much as I hate to say it, Glen Davis lost this game for us tonight. He scores sub 10 points for us, on 2-11 shooting, on a night Tas' scores 23, Terry Martin scores 15, and actually our "supporting cast" didn't shoot the ball too badly. Our shooting % was way better then UT, and we out-rebounded them. But, our leading scorer scores over 10 below his average, and that may have been the difference. That and too many turnovers (again, attribute that some to guard play and the inability to bring the ball up against a press). But, what disappointed me the most was Big Baby floating outside to take too many jumpshots, not getting inside to mix it up, not getting to the foul line... overall, just looking frustrated and disinterested. I don't know what to make of it. It could be that the reality of the season just sinking in, it could be impatience and lack of maturity. In either case, it's hurting his stock. I worry it's the kind of thing that could frustrate him and push him to come out early, but it's hopefully the kind of thing that he bounces back from and realizes he may have to stay one more year. I just think it's so hard this season, b/c we cannot get all cylinders firing at once. You know with another season, there'd be improvement, and with some new blood, Glen could have a more significant supporting cast and a better year. But, the natives are restless and it means the unfortunate off season distraction of fire Brady talk again.... What can I say, it's disappointment city right now and I can't blame folks. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: CAN THE FANS SHOW LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL? TENNESSEE... AVERAGING 17K FANS PER GAME.
Honestly, I'm not sure if Ben Voogd would play at any other school in the SEC. No other school in the SEC is a guard depleted as LSU. Every other team in the SEC has at least two PG's that are superior to Voogd.
Baby is tired...you can see that. He doesn't like staying down low and getting beat up on a double and triple team so he stays outside. That is where we miss a good complement underneath the way Thomas was. Rolle, for one reason or another, just hasn't panned out. The second glaring problem is PG play. We all know that situation. Voogd has come around a bit I think. He still needs some work. Maybe a bit more PT and he'll be alright. We need to get something going in the PG spot because no one has clearly shown they can handle it on a consistant bases. Turnovers killed us tonight. UT had 19 off 20 TO's. Cut those in half and we win. I'm just afraid it is too late. The wheels have come off and the spare is flat.
That strikes me as a good analogy. We looked good at times last night, just too many mistakes and Big Baby looks tired.
I believe that Voogd needs to start from here on out. He's shaky at times, but makes nice plays sometimes too. He is the closest thing we will have to a true point guard for a long time. That is a sad but true fact. There is no better time than now for him to get some experience and learn to play the position better.
