I need to take a step back and think about this. If I was a high profile coach (and that's what everybody wants) would I want my name bantered around with Nutt, Petrino and Miles? No, I'd want things very quiet and cause how would it look for me to be interviewed along with 6 other guys like Miles and then not get the job? If I'm a guy like Saban or Ferentz I want to talk and know right then if I'm hired or not. Cause if an AD can't interview Miles, Petrino and then Ferentz and see that Ferentz is the guy, then I wouldn't want to coach there anyway. I think the next coach will be somebody we have not heard from yet.
I sure hope you're right... because I haven't really liked the names mentioned so far. I'm hoping for something similiar to the Saban situation where it's a name that we haven't heard yet. I really expect things to get heated up next week after the bowls are over and the NFL regular seasonis over as well.
Many of Sexton's clients have been linked to the LSU search for three primary reasons: 1) the LSU position is a prestigous opportunity, and it never hurts to have one's name associated with the caliber of HC it takes to manage such a program 2) opportunity to leverage one's own contract negotiations 3) the opportunity to publically deny interest is a premptive strike against rumors that pop up during recruiting (e.g. Houston Nutt)
