The rivalry talk and such led a few people to state this, and I was curious how it came about...

How *did* you and Ole Miss become rivals?

    Proximity?

back when ole miss was good in football (i think in the 50's) LSU was pretty good too. it became a natural rivalry. proximity had alot to do with it and LSU was the power in La. and Ole miss in Ms. but i'm sure someone older than me can expand on this.

Back when in the 50s and 60s, LSU and Ole Miss were always knocking each other off in contention for national and SEC titles, the Billy Cannon game, etc it was quite the rivalry from what I gather. (Way before my time). Lots of ancient history there now.

They also played back to back games some seasons. Final game of the season and NC games in the Sugar Bowl.

LSU I believe was the only team to beat Ole Miss in a 3 year span, ole miss went like undefeated against everyone else and 1-2 against us, somethin like that around late 50's early 60's. They would have a couple NC's if it weren't for us

I thought I would post what CFB Datawarehouse had for the LSU / OM games of the 50's and 60's.

    51 L 11-03-1962 7 Baton Rouge, LA 15
    52 L 11-02-1963 3 Baton Rouge, LA 37

    55 L 10-29-1966 0 Baton Rouge, LA 17
    56 T 11-04-1967 13 Jackson, MS 13
    57 L 11-02-1968 24 Baton Rouge, LA 27
    58 L 11-01-1969 23 Jackson, MS 26
    59 W 12-05-1970 61 Baton Rouge, LA 17
    60 L 10-30-1971 22 Jackson, MS 24
    61 W 11-04-1972 17 Baton Rouge, LA 16
    62 W 11-03-1973 51 Jackson, MS 14
    63 W 11-02-1974 24 Baton Rouge, LA 0
    64 L 11-01-1975 13 Jackson, MS 17
    65 W 10-30-1976 45 Baton Rouge, LA 0
    66 W 10-29-1977 28 Jackson, MS 21
    67 W 11-04-1978 30 Baton Rouge, LA 8

The first number indicates which meeting between the two teams the game represents.
