The way that I look at it, and this is 100% optimisim, we have a shot to avenge our loss to Auburn and win an NC all at the same time. If we finish 10-1 and second in the west to a 12-0, SEC champion Auburn team, there is an extremely small chance that we could end up 1-2 in the BCS rankings. I know lots of folks have to loose, and for all I know there is some rule that the same conference can't have two teams in the NC game, but one of the best things about being a fan is imagining the most improbable scenarios for youur team to win it all. Now it is not unprecedented for a 3rd place SEC team to get a BCS bid. Florida did in 2001. In fact I think as a 3rd place 10-1 team we are almost a lock for a BCS game. How sweet would it be. It just sucks that Auburn will loose 3 games.
Didn't they pass a new rule? You cant play for NC if you dont win your conference? I still think Auburn will lose twice but I dont know if we can run the table.
Nope, they should have but didn't. You can still not win your conference and make the NC. I felt that was the one rule they should have made, since it would have taken care of last's years problem and prevented it for the future . They just streamlined the BCS, giving the AP and Coaches polls more weight.
I for one am opposed to this, and I think they got it right by not making it a rule. If and when every conference has a championship game..then make the rule. But until the playing field is level, this should not be implemented.
Well yes, but both rules should be implemented. It's unfair for a team to lose their conference championship and be allowed to play for the national title. But it's just as unfair for a team to not have to play a conference title game at all. BTW, how can you have a conference champion without a conference championship? Well, now that I think about it, I guess it's about like having a team win a "co-national championship" by playing a #4 team. But anyway, back to the conference championships, every conference should have to play a title game, and only teams that win their conference title should even be considered for the national title game. It's common sense. Even though some conferences are weaker (ex. Pac-10) and smaller (ex. Pac-10), at least the players would be forced to play the same number of games. If nothing else it gives every team an even number of chances for an important player to get injured. Not that I'm wishing injury on anyone, but I'm just saying the playing field should be as level as possible.
Or, every other BCS conference team could lose two games - except USC! And we get their A$$ES in the Orange Bowl!
Here's one prediction I will make right here and now about the NC game: USC has a better chance of losing a game and missing out on the Orange Bowl than does both Texas and Oklahoma having one loss. You seen Texas' schedule? The BIG 12 North stinks on ice this year, and if they somehow beat OU, they're going 12-0. Same for OU if they beat Texas.
I predict that both Oklahoma and Texas will not have more than one loss. It is still hard to run the table, though, even in a weak conference. I predict Oklahoma will wipe the field with Texas again. And, I never tire of watching that! I would prefer that LSU meet an undefeated USC in the Orange Bowl (just as I wanted Oklahoma to be undefeated last year when we played them in the Sugar Bowl) but I'll take a one loss LSU against a one loss USC! Having said that, I do believe that last year was our year and NEXT YEAR will be the year of the Tiger again!
I thought we would have a chance at coming back to play in the NC if we win the remainder of our games along with the SEC CG (Auburn will lost at least twice), but I can't see either OU or Miami losing this season. Unless Brock Berlin can manage to lose a game all on his accord, which is very possible. Other than that, OU won't lose to Texas. USC will lose at least once, if not twice. So if we don't get into the top 2 in the BCS standings, I would like to see LSU play USC in the Rose Bowl, or whatever bowl we could be paired in.
Good point, I didn't think of it that way. I do think we will see some of these other BCS conferences pick up some non-BCS teams to create a title game in the future. At least it seems we are headed in that direction.
