As Tiger Tour '09 rolled through New World Landing on Thursday, one thing was abundantly clear: It's a year of new faces for the LSU football team.

The offensive and defensive lines lose NFL-caliber players in Herman Johnson, Brett Helms, Tyson Jackson and Kirston Pittman.

But remaining is a young team that Tigers head coach Les Miles thinks can step up and get the job done.

has Miles ever said that before a season?

I don't remember him ever alluding during the pre-season that his team could make a title run

I thought he alluded to it in 07, comment about his prior finishes, #5, #3, he said there's just one spot left... He knew that team could be good.

We were set on the defense, especially the line. We thought Flynn could play, if he was close to his bowl performance against the Hurricanes. I even predicted them 11-1 and in the national title picture.

I have nothing against a little confidence.

Agreed. I also think that'll help build this team's confidence going into the fall, too. I like what I've seen so far from this team. I think upper classmen will step up and keep it going.

If some of the unknown pieces fall into place, they have a chance to do something special this year.

I was reading on a gator site a few weeks back, they were doing pre season predictions. Most predict the gators 14-0 and national champs again. One poster predicted the score of each game, had gators winning by 30 or 40 points per game, except LSU. They plan to "only win by about 10 points" in BR (predicted 30-20 gator win). Most acknowledged LSU as their likely toughest opponent, but our QB not as good as theirs, and with all starters returning on the nat. champ. defense, well.... they'll just kick everyones ass, and our twice, unless Bama or Ole Miss makes it to Atlanta. They agreed Sneed at OM is the second best QB in the league.

My take, Gators will be favored, but  is capable of pulling the upset if the new parts of the team gel. But we have one murderous 3 game stretch next season.

I am glad these things are settled on the field ;-). As long as that happens, who cares what gators thinks. They can nominate themselves champion for next 100 yrs for all I care. :geaux:

I guess it's possible given that Florida's SEC schedule is a joke, but on the flip side 1-2 losses will likely take them out of NC contention as a result.
But if this is representative of Florida fans in general, I think they're gonna be in for a rude awakening.

Based on what I read, it is representative of gator fans in general. One guy conceded it was possible they could drop one game, most likely an upset loss to the Tigers in BR, but they'd still win in Atlanta, play for the national championship and win that. It's possible, they have a strong club, but unforeseen events do happen. The gators will be in the mix for the SEC and nat. championship next season. It will be up to the Tigers to pull the upset. We need some pieces to fall into place, especially on defense.
