Which of these should be the most upsetting: 1. Thousands of people forced from their homes continue to live in shelters and on the streets with no idea what tomorrow will bring to their shattered lives. 2. Thousands of still grieving relatives converged on Ground Zero on the 4th anniversary of 9/11/01 to remember their lost loved ones. 3. LSU, undefeated and quite possibly the third ranked team in the nation, had a bad game defensively.
Good point, and I tried to refrain from posting inane and irrate comments about Pellini et al, BUT... the fact that LSU's players and coaching staff seem so complacent and EXCITED about this "victory" makes me feel kinda sick. Maybe it's all the alcohol from last night that's making me sick, I'll get back to y'all on that later...
Saban, most of us know which events are truely the most upsetting. Some of us are (and were) blowing off steam from last night. I think that in some cases - I know this holds true for me - that the past two weeks have been very difficult and letting a lot of anger and frustration is coming out in the form of bitching about the D last night. Last night I just really exploded, a lot more than I normally would over a game.
I think everyone should calm down and give Pelini a chance to make some changes. If this continues, then we should be worried, but in a first game, under these circumstances, it's ridiculous to be calling for him to be fired already. Come on guys. And I GUARANTEE Pelini and Miles are having a LONG meeting today.
I do believe eryone has perspective. Bitching about football games is just fun. It is what people do. Let us keep that in perspective.
My intent was not to call anyone out or to criticize those who are unhappy with Pelini's debut. Hell, I was pissed too. Tepper is the only coach I have ever advocated firing and I used his name in vain quite often last night. I think that the old adage of "you see the most improvement between games one and two" will ring true in our case. Before the game, I was very afraid that all of the circumstances would conspire to nail us with an opening loss, so, I'll take the win and I'll be very happy about it.
I think that will make a big difference in how the players execute however the lack of adjustments during the game and the high school game plan scare the hell out of me. I hope the defensive staff also make huge improvement between game one and two. No doubt about it with all that happened before game and the way ASU held momentum most of the second half I feel very lucky with the win and will definitely take it and be very happy but we can and should do better.
which we won! As I often point out, we must remember that the other team had a gameplan and wanted to win the game as badly as we did. LSU is not granted any special status that entitles them to win every game handily. At the end of the day it is wins and losses that are added up. Someone in an earlier thread mentioned last year's Georgia game. Out of 12 games played, that was the only one where our defense had their hats handed to them. It did not mean that Saban/Muschamp had a "bad scheme" or a "soft defense" or that they were the "worst coaches anyone had ever seen". It just meant that on that night, the other team played very well and we didn't. A lot of posters have panicked and written off any chance at success because of one game which we won! I don't see why they look forward to the football season if it's going to make them that miserable. It's funny, really.
