In the current system, it is best to play a weak out of conference schedule. The polls are based on where they think you will end up, and if you have an easy schedule you are more likely to be placed at the top (example, USC). LSU is in a great conference, and we play a conference championship game, so we have plenty of opportunity to beat ranked teams and get respect by winning the conference. Playing someone like Oklahoma, Oregon State, Va Tech, etal in a season opener is great way to lose a shot at another national title. I know the arguments will come that you have to beat the best to be the best, well if you win the SEC west while playing Florida every year, win the SEC championship game, and win a BCS bowl, no one remembers that you beat ULL or whoever in the first game of the season (as OUR 2003 NC proves). I was at the game last night. Despite all the negatives, I think we should be proud. LSU used to be a team who got behind and gave up before Saban came to town. What an incredible comeback with so many young players. I am proud of that win. And I must say to those fickle fans who left when we failed to complete the 4th and goal from the 2, I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!! GEAUX TIGERS!
Just because the polls are azz backwards and rewards teams for playing weak competition doesn't mean we have to play along. I would rather lose one more game a year facing quality competition rather than beat up on a bunch of cupcakes all season long. The big three Florida schools have played each other for years out of conference and it has not hurt them. I say if you're scared to play then don't play at all.
