Offense: Way to vanilla. We seem to know we can beat them with speed and I suspect Miles was trying to not show a whole lot but look what happened when we put our difference makers in. Our defense may have been a problem in the fact that Miles seems to get too conservative with our defense on the other side. Defense: Secondary played well. This was our defensive lines worst game all year in my opinion. They got blown off the ball by some not very good athletes. Special Teams: Our punt return is awful but glad #8 was able to return some kicks. He hits the hole like you need to. Also, these penalties are going to kill us one day. Nice job in 2nd half and you have to given Tulane credit. They showed up and their defense played really well for the most part. This game has to help us for next week and I pray Flynn's ankle is better.
If Matt's ankle kept him from participating in *any* run-option plays (for the third game in a row, I might add), then why was he in the game??? He's just not a good QB if he's confined to the pocket and is forced to pass. Not good at all...
A win is a win. Probably not too many style points today. We did pull away in the second half and D looked great. Too many penalties! A bit sloppy in the first half. Would have liked to see more of RP, surprised he didn't play in the first half at all. Again, like in the MSU game, the O didn't show too much. Anyone think we were looking ahead somewhat next week? Way to go -- 5-0! :geauxtige
I completely agree. He has that ability to know when to pull it down and does a great job at it but he was unable to do it today. Plus, he couldn't side step to avoid pressure if his life depended on it.
Let RP throw the ball. He threw the ball twice the entire game. Tulane's D owned our O-line. They look worse in this game than the MSU game.
Yes, this was a frustrating game for everyone. 34-9 is not bad considering what could have been. I'll take this type of game over a blow out leading up to the Florida game every time. There's a lot to work on and CLM will get everyone's attention. I expect a great game next week bouncing back from this dull performance. Can you believe the under throw and over throw by Perriloux near the games end to a wide open receiver? I was kinda glad to see him screw up as well. Everyone should be focused this week. :crystal:
My thoughts on the game can all be summed up in one statement, "poor offensive line play!" What do you expect a quarterback to do when he is getting slammed to the ground every other play? I do not understand why they didn't put some subs in, there was no way they could have played worse than the starters in the first half. They looked much better in the second half, but still got beat a couple of times. It is really stange, because they have played so well the last three games. Hopefully, it was just because their heads were not in the game, and next week they will be back to their "A" game, because I know they can play much better than they did today.
Anybody notice that Tulane's d-line wasn't nearly as effective when Perrilloux was in? It's tough to say for sure, since they weren't throwing the ball much with RP, but it's much easier for a d-line to pin their ears back and just pass rush when they know the QB can't move well.
No limit, that is absolutely true, but you have to take into consideration they were getting tired later in the game. (No offense, you always have good observations).
The defensive front was spread more even in the 3rd quarter though. When they know you have a lateral run threat at QB, they can't just stack the line and shoot the gaps. That's the big problem that's exposed with Flynn not having his usual mobility. There's no reason to spy or even hold back on the rush. Trust me, I'm not giving the o-line a free pass, but their job is exponentially more difficult if they're only running vanilla plays AND have an immobile QB back there.
