Somebody mentioned this in another thread and I thought it worthy of discussion. Since it is likely that USC will get the pre-season #1 spot and also likely they will hold on to it without defeat, where will LSU start out? Of course we have to get to the #2 spot, but despite what all of us know about the team, there will be many questions early on from the voters. New OC, new QB, 2 new receivers, etc. I have complete faith in Flynn(assuming he starts), but the writers might not until several games are gone past. Also bear in mind that despite Flynn's abilities/age, there will still be a learning curve, which is pretty unforgiving in the SEC. My questions are: 1) Where will LSU realistically start in the polls? 2) Can Flynn and company meld quickly enough to rise to the #2 spot? 3) What teams do you see ranked in front of us? I can realistically see us in the top 10, even ranked as high as 5, but not really any higher with this many new players in the skill positions. I actually worry less about Flynn's ability then I do the receivers but he will get the lion share of the blame if they don't come together. Our running game will never be more important than it will be this year, so a healthy line is critical. Possible teams in front of us could be USC, Texas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, Michigan. Love to hear everyone else's opinion on this. :thumb:
The only two teams I see that could go before us is USC and WV. Florida is losing more than LSU. I think Wisconsin should be in front of Michigan but I can see many voters just putting UM ahead because of their program. OU has too many question marks. Texas is losing many starting DBs that have made the difference for the defense. We will be in between 2 and 5.
I don't know about the rankings, but judging by the thread in Free Speech, most of the student section will be "high".
I freaking just spit my diet coke all over my damn bad and housekeeping is already closed for the night!!! Thanks a lot!!!!:cuss:
With Sports Illustrated writers saying "anything less than a national championship will be a disappointment" then those sportswriters shoul dbe putting LSU in the top 5 and I think they will. Beating a top-10 VT in week two should put us right up there with Southern Cal.
I see LSU at #5. Your schedule favors a no loss scenario into mid-season when you meet Florida on Oct 6th. I think it's better to start no lower than 5 or 6 and move up then to attempt hanging on to #1.
