http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/recap;...200511 240017 Their QB was 4-10 41 yards 1 td and 1 int. But get this, 23 rushes for 220 yards. LSU has played one rushing QB, and that was Appy State. This guy is going to be tough to stop (rushing). He won't be a big threat to pass, so if we just stack the box and blitz the corners, I think we'll be able to contain him.
they run a similar offense to florida.. this guy is just a much bette rrunner than leak but a terrible passer... this spread option offense doesnt work when the LBs are faster than the QB and RBs..
45 points and a "Vick-like" performance in snow flurries and 7 degree wind chill LOL, he'll run like a jackrabbit in that warm Ga. dome! If LSU gets past Arkansas and Georgia, LSU will have their hands full with this guy. A look at this team's record ... one loss to then #3 VT ... and several close wins ... one against Louisville ... REMIND YOU OF ANYBODY :hihi: Statistically, this team is very similar to LSU on both offense and defense. SEC homers will scoff at this and squeel about SOS and weakness in WV's conference http://www.masseyratings.com/rate.php?lg=cf Massey has LSU with the #57 SOS ... WV is # 55 ... that's about even! Massey even has this WV team ranked 3 slots above #11 LSU at #8. Teams with an accomplished vertical passing game have run up the score on these run-stopping WV boys ... and teams with an accomplished vertical passing game and great defense have whipped their ass ... Less, got your ears on, fella!
they play against really good defenses every week in the big east.....NOT! Let them play a sec calibur defense and see how many yards and tds they get.....
My guess is ... this year... on a neutral field... WV would be an underdog to LSU, Auburn and Georgia and favored against anyone else. And true, WV may not get 40 points on some of the upper tier SEC teams, but then to win, they may only need 24 or 25. And, although it's great fun to diss the Big Easy... WV can play with a lot of teams. They just don't have one of those cutsie names like.... ah... Notre Dame.
I posted this in another thread but can't find it. Pitt had 3rd and about 18 from their 40-45 yd line. A running play got 14 yards leaving 4th and 4 but WVU had lined up offsides so they had the option of 4th and 4 or 3rd and long. Wannstedt declined the penalty and punted. Why wouldn't he take a shot at getting the 1st down?
That might explain why Wannstedt had been "releived of his duties" at each of his 2 previous head coaching jobs
Easy explanation -- Wannstedt is a remarkably inept coach. Difficult explanation -- Perhaps he wanted the longer field to allow the punter to air it out and try to pin them inside the 10. The easy explanation is much more likely.
But, by declining the penalty, he actually gave the punter a shorter field. That's why it didn't make any sense.
