Just looking at tendencies.. cant bring myself to watch more than one quarter... On defense... nearly equal amount of man and zone... all but one of the blitzes were out of zone... the majority of the completions were against zone and zone coverage left the most recievers open... From watching just one quarter it is obvious that the zone package that we are running does not work... simple as that... some of the "experts" say its because our db's have been trained to cover man2man, not zone.. probably true, but with the current personell, we need to run man2man. On offense... on 1st down and second down, 6 runs, 5 passes, but only one of the passes was attempted for more than 7 yards... 3rd down was 5 passes, no runs... What I would do here, and exactly what UT did in the second half, is run man2man and stack the box on first and second down... stops the run and the short passes... On third i drop back 7 into zone coverage because its pretty damn obvious you are going to pass.. there were no draws in the first quarter, and i honestly dont remember any in the game...
Throughout the game, the playcalling on offense was very predictable. It felt like run, run, pass every set of downs.
do you think any of that was dictated by the D? (no sarcasm intended) did jr audible? he did a lot against asu i assume that short passes were usually because of a read by jr--he had a choice who to hit. i cant imagine the level of TF rants on O play-calling if jimbo called draws on 3rd and 7 (that is, unless they resulted in 1st downs)
