First, Good job adjusting at halftime. But here are some things I see that we could use more. 1. Bennie Brazell seems to make a play everytime he is in the game. Other teams have not caught onto it yet for some reason, because he is always open when we need a big play. Maybe we should just stick him out there a little more. If nothing else they have to make someone run down the field with him. Maybe open up something underneath. 2. Skyler is so misused it is amazing. It looked like the gameplan was to get him the ball often with the first two plays, but that went away quick. 3. That team reverse we run, (it's exactly the same everytime), takes way to long to develope, and the second handoff happens way to far off the line of scrimmage. What I would like to see is us fake the second handoff and just let Skyler run with it. 4. Landry is like an assasin on that safety blitz. You can tell he loves that call. Both times we did it he killed Croyle. 5. I am still clapping for our defense. The only yards Bama gained in the second half were ALL on the damn screen pass to Darby as time expired. I thought in the first half we were playing base D the entire time. Pelini saw it too though, and realized he needs to just let those guys fly. Hopefully we just play 60 minutes like that the rest of the season. 6. No turnovers and limited penalties were awesome tonight. I think the credit for our three game turnaround goes about 80% to coaches, 20% players here, hopefully that keeps up. No complaints about the outcome tonight, really no complaints about much at all in the second half. Other than kicking the 50 yarder and running on third and 6 I thought it was a well coached 30 minutes.
1. I like Benny, too. But he is a special circumstance player, apparently. Jimbo likes to keep him fresh for that play when blazing speed is called for. And it seems to work. Anyway to put him in you have to take out Bowe or Davis, or Green. XC will have to assume this role next year. 2. Disturbingly, with Addai out, LSU does not seem to have a running game. 3. No turnovers! Fewer penalties! I like it.
thats one hell of a D so im not so worried about the poor running game. especially after they were able to do some stuff in the 2nd half. no turnovers was huge. jr missed some plays but didnt screwup and made some plays, so overall played ok. i was disappointed for a while with the tackling but the corrected that in the 2nd half. i dont care about using skyler. he's a very good pr, but not a good wr. use the bubble screen, a slant or two and MAYBE a reverse, but he isnt nearly as good a receiver as bowe or davis. im not sold on bennie yet. i think he's being used just right. in the zone D, the safeties are clearly focusing on bowe. thats a big part of why brazell is making big plays. anytime JR goes to the 3rd/4th option a big play will happen if he's on.
Gotta give credit to 'Bama's front 7 for some of that. The ends for the Tide seemed to be brining us down by the ankles seemingly every other running play. They are quick, and like the announcers said, "are experienced and rarely out of position". For whatever the reason, our run-blocking doesn't seem as efficient as it had been in years past.
The reverses that Miles runs reminds me of the Charlie McClendon days. Saban was pretty consistant in getting good yardage on reverses. We have the same offensive coordinator so I don't understand the change in results.
