Does Crowton have RB by committee? I really hope not. I think we need to focus on using KW and RM. Charles Scott for third down and goal line situations. If Alley Broussard is in shape we will probably use him for those. I am afraid Miles will give the ball to Alley too much, like he did with JV last year. I think that really killed us in some games.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out as most folks seem to think the talent is there. I don't care who's got the ball as long as it's moving forward.:thumb:
That is basically RB by committee, I dont see why we would change our bread and butter. We attract great recruits to come and contribute in the running game. We keep them fresh and use their strenghts individually. Carries will be split and if one goes down the rest of the stable will pick up the slack. What would have happened in past years if we just used on guy with all the big injuries we have had? Anyway you slice it, LSU has had its best years with a committee. I would understand one guy back there only if he was the only one worth a damn but I would be cringing every play waiting for an injury. BTW, I am interested to see if Alley will get more playing time. It is being reported that he is only 5 pounds away from his Soph. weight. Still dont think that will change much in his reps this year.
Yeah but RB by committee kinda killed us last year. I would like Keiland to get a bulk of the carries(20 a game), RM 10 a game, Scott 5-7 a game, Broussard 5 a game, Hester 5 a game, and Trindon 3. We rushed about an average of 37-40 times a game last year. Id imagine we are going to rush more this year, so we should be able to get everyone carries while still getting a good number to Keiland.
We had running back by committee because no one stepped up until the end of the season. I don't care who the OC is, if one back shows he is better he will get the bulk of the carries. Hopefully someone will step it up and move to the front of the pack earlier this season.
i think IF KW had showed up to fall practice on time, he would have been getting a bulk of the carries in the Auburn game. And I think we would have won it if he had.
Very possible, but something we don't have to worry about this year. We have a herd of quality backs on campus in good shape getting ready for the season. Last year we had a couple young late arrivals mixed in with injured veterans.
This phrase is meaningless to me . . . a sportscasters soundbyte. LSU is deep in running backs, why wouldn't we play them? All champions take advantage of talented depth. It's not running back by committe, it will be running back by task and talent. The speedy Williams and Murphy will see the bulk of the duty on downs 1-3, alternating drives to stay fresh and reduce injuries. The versatile Hester will see a lot of single-back and third-and-long because he can run, block, get in the passing lanes, or pick up the blitz and he knows when to do it. The powerful Broussard will see a lot of third-and-short and fourth-and-one situations. I can't imagine a better situation for an OC than to have talented backs with a broad range of special skills.
The TFL is going to be interesting in the early goings for sure. There are pro's and con's for RB by committee. You always have fresh legs, but nobody can get a rhythm. You keep the defense on edge with different types of running styles, but the O-line has to change blocking technique to fit the style of the runner. I trust that the coaches will make the right call based on our players abilities. They know better than we do.
