One of the BR radio guys got it wrong if this is indeed what happened. It was reported on the Score 1210 the way that I typed it. Thanks for the clarification.

Sounds like he was just trying to use LSU as leverage for a better contract.

I was crucified when I mentioned JDR's poor judgement. I think this is another example.

As late as this morning Del Rio did not remove himself from the running of LSU's coaching position, after being asked 4 times to do so. Seems he may have really had an interest, and the leverage was a side effect??

The Florida Times-Union reported a meeting was scheduled between Del Rio and LSU officials last Friday in Daytona Beach. Del Rio didn't show up, though, and by late Sunday, the Tigers seemed set to hire Miles to succeed Nick Saban, who accepted the Dolphins' coaching post last week. "I have too much respect for Wayne Weaver to ever get involved in discussions without talking to him first," Del Rio said.

Well who set up the meeting with Del Rio if it wasn't Del Rio himself? Did some LSU fan just call Skip and say hey Jack is interested get everyone on the plane and come on over? How does a meeting get set up and Del Rio not know about it? Sounds like BS to me.

He knew about the meeting...it was the owner of Jax that didn't know about it. The reason Del Rio pulled out is because he found out the owner was not notified of the meeting...hence his comments about 'talking with him first". When Del Rio found out his agent didn't notify the owner, he fired him (or so the story goes).

JDR fired his agent because the agent had not notified the owner of the meeting as required by his contract. Says it all.

So here is the timeline as I see it.

Skip goes to Nashville to interview Petrino on his way to Memphis. Aparently wasn't too impressed.

Skip then goes to San Antonio to interview Miles and he fits all the criteria--implying Petrino didn't (though I will not speculate on which criteria Petrino might have missed).

Token interview of Williams to get BCA out of the way.

Skip then schedules with Del Rio, who doesn't have the sense/attention to detail to make sure his boss knew. Skip probably didn't know that when the interview was cancelled, but later found out and didn't like the reasoning (Neither do I, and I thought Del Rio would be a good hire).

At that point, Skip probably figures it's Miles or Robiskie, who has expressed an interest in pursuing an NFL HC job in the future. Skip figures why wait, and decides on Miles.

Miles is well respected, even though he hasn't been the "top name" yet. But with Petrino's back stabbing and Del Rio's lax attention to detail, Skip may have found the right man. I certainly hope so and I was impressed with the press conference.

I pretty much think that's spot on, except SKip did say he talked with several other candidates that will never be mentioned by name. Whether that was face to face, or by phone who knows. Probably both.

I think it boiled down to Miles fit everything they were looking for in a coach, and everyone agreed that he was a good fit. In their eyes, if you've found the right man, why wait to pull the trigger? Just offer and get him and let him start recruiting.
