Don't know if anyone else caught this, but I was watching the replay of the LSU/UT game during the false start on the final drive that made it 4th and 7, and Greg Bowser made a very interesting point. Apparently, the Vols were using some dirty tricks at the line of scrimmage. Whenever the LSU O-line got set, one of the UT D-linemen would yell out a fake snap count to mimic that used by the QB, causing the lineman to flinch for a false start. There was a replay of Miles talking to the officials to get UT to stop doing that, since it's apparently illegal according to Bowser.
The announcers kept slobbering over UT for giving LSU a moving pre-snap look. I figured they were full of it. We may not be perfectly disciplined but linemen aren't going to constantly screw up just because the other team is moving around out there. Oh, and yes, yelling a fake snap count is definitely a penalty. I've seen it called in many games and I've even played in a game whereit's been called. It's usually some dumbass on the defense that doesn't know it's against the rules rather than a coach telling them to do it. Wouldn't put it past Fulmer in Knoxville though. If this is the case our linemen better have been complaining to the refs about it, sometimes you gotta point the zebras in the right direction.
Welcome to TF...and good post. It's so good that it's actually just about what I was going to type. :hihi:
Well why in the hell didn't Herman Johnson complain to the refs about this, since he was called for just about every one of them? That just doesn't make sense.
The offending team's coach has to eat a dozen jelly donuts, thats why Fat Phil was making his defense do it. FFF was heard to say on the sidelines: "Sometimes you have to cheat to eat !"
